@finn1313 yes, it was just added a few months ago (that’s when they announced it). I think they have realized by asking students for feedback that this is an academic area that is becoming quite popular. My son is interested in it, and we have noticed that many colleges have some kind of version of it. Cool major. I know an undeclared freshman that will be declaring the neuroscience major (if she’s allowed to…not sure if you have to apply?)
I know there is only few days left till the EA decision, but I wanted some input. I am mainly concerned about my unbalanced SAT score and my ECs. I am an immigrant who moved about 7 years ago so I have limited knowledge. Thank you in advance to those who apply!!
About Me:
Sex: M
From: Public High School in Texas
Race: Asian-Korean
Desired Major: Mathematics
Applied EA

- All As Sophomore but B in AP Lang and all As in junior, and my freshman year was a disaster due to my limited knowledge in whole High School system
Extracurriculars:
- Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Soceity, Soccer (only 9th), Orchestra all 4 years
Employment:
- Work as a Cashier in cleaners for couple years. Cueerntly working somewhere else but it is not in my resume because I got this job very recently.

- And, other religious volunteer activities
Also Im concerned about EA being more selctive than RD
Re: Admit rates between the schools. At a recent BC info session, they said the acceptance rates between schools is very similar- within a point or 2 of each other. So acceptance to CSOM would not be significantly more difficult than to arts and sciences.
@choijiwon526 I think your chances are excellent because you are an intended Math major. The rest of your application seems strong and i think your background would be a nice addition to BC’s student community. Please keep us posted and good luck!

@collegemomjam Thank you so much for encouragingnews and thoughts!!
You’re welcome @choijiwon526!
@mathlov I think you also have a strong application…especially being a boy applying to Morrissey and having the 35’s in English and Reading. There are a lot of NJ Catholic Prep school boys at BC, as you know, so he will have some competition from that. But he has a good story and the upward trend after the illness is definitely a major strength.
Did your guidance counselor address the lyme disease in his rec? BC doesn’t track, but did he officially visit?
@collegemomjam I hope guidance addressed the Lyme, we definitely stressed it at our meetings. He visited and had several email communications with the rep stressing how much he loved BC and he also sent his first quarter grades.
With all due respect, that is extremely optimistic. Approx. 85% of matriculants have graduated in the top decile of thier class, and I’m betting big cyber dollars that a 3.5 GPA ain’t close to top 10%. Sure, excellent test scores, but the #1 items for admissions is transcript.
@ bluebayou a 95.9 is a 3.836 not a 3.5
yes, Neuro is new. Previously, you could earn a Neuro focus with a BA in Psych.

Your right in the middle statistically but with a great gpa. If you’ve taken the most difficult path your school offers that will make you stronger Deferrals are very common and not indicative of the final decisions. Hang in there. You’re a competitive student and obviously worked hard to put yourself in a position to compete.
Does anybody know if the neuroscience major was offered on this year’s common application? I did not see it and I most certainly would have picked it had I seen, as neuroscience is my intended field of study. I chose biology instead…
Also, I hate to do this but my nerves are starting to get out of control… anybody want to comment on my stats?

@finn1313 It’s not on there and no worries you can change your major and if they admit you as a bio major, I would think there will be no problem switching to neuroscience and you will already be in Morrissey so I think it’s probably just a matter of declaring the major you want when you are ready. If you get in, you will meet with an advisor this summer at orientation and you can let them know that you are interested in the neuroscience major and when you plan out your classes, they can help you take that into consideration. Not sure it will matter that much since you will be doing a lot of core the first year. But if you come in with a lot of AP’s you might have room to start your major. If you get in, you probably can call them after you are admitted and talk to them about all of this and maybe they can change it before orientation, but it’s probably not necessary. Your stats are strong. I think you have a great chance! Good luck!
does anybody have any guesses as to around what time the notification e-mail will be sent out on Tuesday? When has it dropped in the past?
@julianharvey just checked last year’s EA thread… looks like people started getting notified just before 6 pm EST
