Agreed. Cross contamination is not acceptable. If BC is offering GF meals, they should pass the microscope test for gluten. Otherwise, just admit that they will not accommodate celiac students and recommend that such students attend elsewhere.
If my kid had celiac, I’d be all over the Director of Food Services, the Dean of the College, and the head of the Disability/Health Office with cc’s to Father Leahy.
Kinda harsh, don’t you think? (particularly from a parent whose kid is a future Connell Nursing student.)
Sure, celiac may not be immediately life-threatening like some food allergies (peanut or shellfish?), but 2-3 days of vomiting, diarrhea and migraines for ingestion of gluten does not a good Frosh term make.
BC advertises GF options, so they need to step up their game, or get out of it entirely.
@bluebayou is 100 percent right. And my experience is they really do care. All schools have a bit of administrative bottle neck but I do think outreach to those departments that were mentioned is in order. You might have to push a bit at the stafff level but the leaders won’t have this going on. Honestly. Get to the leadership. You should be able to eat well and safely. They want you to thrive and becoming a lifetime ambassador. Really they do care about these things and sometimes just don’t know it’s happening because others are painting a rosy picture.
Did any of the acceptances reference Gabelli Scholarship consideration? Or does anyone know this year when those notifications go out for ED and RD applicants?
Thx!
Thanks! Based on last year’s threads when Boston College was EA, I believe applicants who were being considered for the Gabelli Scholarship were notified around the same time they got their acceptances (December). It appears for those who applied RD, they also got a notification in December they were being considered. I am just wondering if there any changes given that BC is now Ed1 and Ed2.
Thanks so much for any insight.
^^no insights, other that what’s in the link above: All applicants who apply by Nov 1 will be considered for Gabelli and invitations for the on-site interview will go out ~Feb 1.
My point was that the poster seemed unhappy at BC. It is still early enough in their undergraduate studies to move to a university where they will be happy.
Also, It has nothing to do with my child being a future nursing student.
In general, It seems like Tulane and other ED schools with longer histories with this process do this regularly.
Perhaps they take the students on the cusp from the last round from the ED group and those from RD who applied early enough for marketing and as a commitment indicator.
I have to go back and dig out my post on the numbers, but I believe I am uber close to, if not- almost spot on. I guesstimated 2,750 apps for ED1 and ED2 and 25k for RD with an overall of 21%.
Not too bad for a MCAS student with just a minor in CSOM.
Thank you for applying to Boston College through our Regular Decision program. Decisions will be emailed during the evening on Thursday, March 19, so please check your email at that time. Boston College does not post admission decisions online, nor do we communicate decisions by phone.
