any indicators of acceptances?
NEU is known to give a lot more scholarship money to individuals and is right in the city of Boston. I believe they usually get many more applicants than BC.
@nextlevel NEU and BC two very different schools. NEU is in the Heart of Boston proper, very urban, directly on the T line, steps away from Museums, Fenway Park, Restaurants, Symphony Hall, Back Bay, Prudential Center. NEU is known for its cooperative program which runs every third trimester. The students get wonderful work experience as part of their education. I believe it has a strong engineering program. BC is in Chestnut Hill, a wealthy suburb just steps away from Brookline (a semi urban town separate from but adjacent to Boston proper, with a strong neighborhood, great culture, restaurants, quaint feel, old movie theater, T also runs directly thru it, providing easy access to Boston, Cambridge , as well. BC is a premier Jesuit institution with Jesuit values woven thru its culture (similar to Notre Dame but smaller). You certainly do not need to be Catholic to go there and it attracts students of all backgrounds, religions, race, etc. It attracts nice, academically oriented students. It has a strong school spirit and a big university attitude and energy when it comes to athletics (BC football games are big days). It has more of a traditional college campus feel, beautiful old architecture, grassy lawns, compared to the urban feel of Northeastern. Academically, BC has historically had an advantage but today, both are strong in different areas. BC is more of a liberal arts education. It also has a very strong Alumni network, especially in the Northeast.
My oldest got into NEU and was rejected from BC. Amazing stats. two legacy kids from her class were accepted that year w much lower stats. And one kid was definitely accepted w a GPA that barely broke 3.0 and never took an honors class nor was the student an athlete. I do believe w BC itâs not just whatâs on paper that gets you in. At least historically what we see for those accepted from our town in MA.
my son this year who applied to BC and NEU got into NEU EA w 75,000 applications w much lower acceptance rate. BC will be a stretch and odds against him. Not from the standpoint of academics or qualifications. But very few MASS kids from each high school get into BC. So while BC acceptance is 30% ish, for a mass kid is much much lower. Other factors in play as well.
NEU w coops in my opinion give them a big edge over BC. D is biochem and had first coop at takeda in protein lab for 6 months in Cambridge.- amazing experience, and just got offer at Boston hospital on organ transplant surgical floor.
BC to me is an amazing school and has a stunning campus and a very good Business program and a true college feel. But it has a culture that is very very different from NEU and has to be right fit for a student. NEU is very diverse. Two different schools. Each beautiful but v different.
Does anyone know what time we should expect decisions tonight ?
@LD3790 & @annaliese67 thank you for the responses. Good perspectives.
Good luck to all!
6:30 in the Northeast
Awesome, thanks!
Does anyone know what the decision letters look like? Is it going to automatically pop up when we log in or will we have to click on some sort of view status update button?
i think its a downloaded letter, i could be wrong tho
@bean73 last year my student received an email that included an attachment containing her acceptance letter. No pop up. Good luck!
So the decision will not be posted in the portal?
Historically, BC sent decisions as an attachment to email. Itâs not clear to me whether that will happen this year or not - check the email from last week with the decision date to see if they said anything about method of releasing decisions.
Ah ok the email said decision will be released exclusively in the portal. Good luck to everyone!
@CCollegeU Both S18 and D20 received an email from BC containing an attachment that included the acceptance letter. I canât say for sure if they had to log into the portal to view the letter once they clicked on the attachment or if the letter just opened. (I think it was the latter) A paper copy of the letter was received in the mail several days later. Not sure what the plan for this year is. I hope that is helpful!
I agree that BC considers many factors in addition to the typical numbers (gpa, class rank, honors/AP courses). For example, a top priority for admissions is students whose parents did not go to college. This is referred to as âfirst gen.â Increasing the number of BIPOC students is also a priority. I believe attending a Catholic high school is also a big positive.
âApplicants will receive an email to check their BC Applicant Status Portal once online decisions are officially released. Please note, decisions are released exclusively through the portal and cannot be communicated by email or over the phone.â
I sure hope you are right about the last part! My daughter wrote one of her essays on being Catholic, and attending Catholic school from K-12, being an altar server, confirmation, etc. And she has high stats, leadership, lots of service, great ecs, etc. So fingers crossedâ:crossed_fingers:for some good news today!!
