[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Concert Piano for 11 years, Senior Class President, Operation Smile (president), Varsity Soccer, Varsity Speech (all star), Varsity Ensemble (numerous national as well as international awards), Japanese Ice-Hockey
[] Job/Work Experience: Did a summer school thing at my school for three weeks during the summer. Not much.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Operation Smile
[] Essays: I think they’re good. I tried to be funny but smart.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Average, I would say.
[] Counselor Rec: He knew me well; I’d say it was pretty good.
[] Additional Rec: My professor at the Columbia University summer program wrote me one, and sent it to the school. I read it, and it was pretty good.
[] Interview: No interview.
[/ul]Other[ul]

[] Intended Major: Business Management
[] State (if domestic applicant): -
[] Country (if international applicant): Japan
[] School Type: Private, Catholic
[] Ethnicity: Ireland / Japan
[] Gender: M
[] Income Bracket: No idea, but I don’t have to apply for financial aid…
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): Piano (ABRSM Grade 8 examination passed with ‘distinction’). Also, I am a Catholic Irish.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I devoted my time to a small number of activities, and I was passionate about all of them (except for O.S.). I think my essay helped as well.
[] Weaknesses: My freshman and sophomore year grades were well-under par. Thus, my cumulative GPA is terribly low for these top-tier schools.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I am a half Irish, half Japanese concert pianist with a passion for soccer, ice hockey, and a myriad of other activities. I’m well rounded.
[/li][/ul]General Comments: I’m absolutely delighted. I was deferred or waitlisted at other schools, and so a straight-up acceptance was refreshing. I’m also relieved. Boston College is not a bad school at all!! Good luck to those applying (or waitlisted) for a spot next year. Don’t get discouraged by a part of your application, whether its the low GPA or the lack of extra currics, and apply!

to all waitlisted students:
i just got back from a school meeting with a BC admissions rep…when asked specifically about what a student can do to get off the waitlist, she said to absolutely send a letter or email stating that BC is your 1st choice…she keeps them in the file for after the fallout date of May 1…

she also said to have your school send in your spring grades…they take kids in off waitlist after analyzing where they need each student, ie Arts & Science, Nursing etc…also do they still need a tuba player etc…

She said do NOT send in newspaper clippings about yourself! Too much paper already with 34,056 applications!

Good luck & don’t despair!

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Essay, SATs
[] Weaknesses: Grades!
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: luck[/li][/ul]General Comments:Probably won’t be attending. Congrats to everyone who got in! hopefully I’ll free up a spot on the waitlist!

I agree: a girl from Jersey ought to be a hook! Where will you be attending if BC is not your top choice?

Most likely Lafayette College in PA. I have 3 younger brothers (one of whom has down syndrome) and with my parents’ crazy weekend work schedule I feel like I need to be closer to home to help out. I love BC though!

@laplatinum statistically speaking, Jersey tends to have an extremely high percentage of high school students applying to four year colleges and more females apply to college than males… Thus, Jersey girls like to joke about the odds against us. To say the least, in my opinion its no hook.
