My son really wants to attend Boston College High School. He will be going into 7th grade this year so we don’t know if he should apply for 8 grade next year or just wait and apply with most for 9th grade. We would prefer the start of high school but while his grades are good he has learning disabilities and we know his standardized test score (ISEE) will be low comparatively. We worry it will be harder to get in in 9th. He plays sports, active in extra curricular, and is socially astute. However, the academics are a concern. Do any of you have any feedback on BC High admissions? Where do you think his best chances would be? I wonder if they even accept many 8th graders? Thanks!
The 2 main entry points for BC High are grades 7 & 9. Admissions into 8th, 10th, and 11th are more difficult as they are really based upon what spots are available due to attrition. Still, no harm in trying for 8th. Note that BC High makes no admissions accommodations; your son is held to the same admissions standards. However, if accepted, they do work with you to plan a program based upon his learning differences. Good luck.
I’d go for 8th and if he doesn’t get in, try 9th. Going early could help him get established and have a stronger footing when high school rolls around.
You can request a personal interview. Highly recommended.
