These are my top options right now…waiting to see ivies admissions in April.
I was a finalist for the Presidential Scholars Program, so if I get the scholarship, I get:
a trip to Italy, Nicaragua, an 8 week trip for language immersion, and full tuition
pretty sweet, but I also got accepted into Georgetown, which was my top choice.
I want to go into foreign service.
What do you think I should do if I get the PSP scholarship?
You go back to Georgetown and see if you can negotiate the financial aid package. They may not be willing to budge, but you won’t know if you don’t try. The usual approach is to let Georgetown know that they are your first choice, but because of the difference in the financial package, you may not have the option to accept. The worst they will do is say, ‘sorry, can’t help you’ in which case you are no worse off than you were. You can still choose either option. Alternatively, they may offer you a more generous package than they already have (which might just make the decision harder, but in a good way, right?)
Honestly, I would go with Georgetown, because their SFS is very highly regarded in the foreign service field and the chance for you to be in Washington DC is unparalleled in terms of getting internships, job offers, and the such. The Boston College idea sounds like a good one but definitely look into what else Georgetown could offer you.
