@nel626 and @justinn76 - Because Financial Aid is a separate office, we recommend contacting them for anything more than surface-level inquiries (which we can handle). They can be e-mailed at studentservices@bc.edu or called at 617-552-3300.

@DevlinHall208 I know BC doesnt separate data for CAS and CSOM, but do you know unofficially the GPA and ACT range for CAS in itself? And also the gpa and ACT fof CSOM
@crystalwaters23 - You answered your own question: we do not compute that data by our four different divisions.

Applying CAS Econ
I’m not gonna do a full write up but my stats are as follows if anyone wants to chance me. Much appreciated! I’ll try to chance back
3.813 GPA
29 ACT (I was legitimately one subscore point away from being at a superscored 30…)
Top ACT Subs:
34 Eng
29 Math
28 Reading I think…
26 Science I think… (not going to bother to check)
top 20% of class
Lots of APs
A few good extracurriculars (Hockey 2 years, Robotics as director of finance 3 years, started my own club and ran it for a year, working every summer and this year during the school year, some volunteering, but not too much)
Awards:
Qualified for State economic challenge
Outstanding Academic Achievement in AP Economics award
Academic Letter 2 years
edit: in retrospect, this was a full write up lol
@kcirtap35 I think you have a solid chance. Depends on how well you crafted your essay. But your GPA and scores are right in their range. What school did you apply to? (CAS, CSOM, etc.)
@justinn76 I’m applying to CAS. Thanks for the chance! You have a great record as well, despite the GPA. The ACT score is on par, good senior course load, and a lot of well-regarded ECs. Nice job!
@kcirtap35 yeah I know my GPA kills it…I hope they can look past it as it was just a bad freshman year. Let’s hope we both get in! Good luck
Yeah. I’m sure they’ll see past that since you have an upward trend. Good luck to you as well
@DevlinHall208 what is the difference between Econ in CAS and Econ in CSOM?
@crystalwaters23
It looks like CSOM Students have to have econ credits, but Econ is a CAS major
Economics Offerings for CSOM Students: http://fmwww.bc.edu/EC-C/docs/ec.ugrad.csom.php
Econ: http://www.bc.edu/schools/cas/economics/undergraduate.html
@DevlinHall208 If you are a CAS student at BC, can you still do a major or minor at CSOM? Like double major in Econ at CAS and study finance at CSOM? Or major of Econ at CAS and a minor in finance at CSOM?
@ASAPsnow The only way to have a double major in both CSOM and A&S is by being a member of CSOM when you start. This allows you to complete the business core (culminating with a major in management) and at least one concentration in a dozen different areas (such as finance, economics, accounting, marketing, etc.), while also getting a second major in A&S if you wish. Being in CSOM and double majoring in Economics doesn’t happen much, as students would opt to complete the economics concentration instead.
You cannot double major in CSOM if you are in A&S. You can pick up 7 courses in CSOM as electives, or you can pursue a management and leadership minor, available to all students.
@DevlinHall208 ok so Can I major in Econ in CAS and minor in finace at CSOM? Do the 7 electives at CSOM count as a minor? Also is it 7 or 6 courses. I read online that it was 6
Hello,@DevlinHall208 …Has BC published the number of students participating in the current admissions cycle IE #applicants received for early action/number of those accepted/rejected/deferred, and also the total number of applicants received for the class of 2019? I think I read the stats for early action somewhere, but I can’t find it now. Thanks!
@Asapsnow - No, you cannot minor in anything within CSOM other than Management & Leadership. The structured concentrations are specific to CSOM students, acting as the place they wish to focus their classes in addition to the Management major all CSOM students receive. And it is usually 18 credits for students to use across all schools, which is 6 classes. This doesn’t create a minor, but it provides electives a student can use to gain further understanding of specific business courses to also put on a resume. To receive any formal course of study from CSOM, you must be a CSOM student.
@collegebound62 - No data has been released on the full Class of 2019, as decisions are still being made. We published in a counselor newsletter that our Early Action applications were nearly 10,000 (increase of ~75% from last year) and we admitted 2,700, an acceptance rate of 27%, the lowest in our EA history. The number deferred/rejected was shaded to slightly more defers in the remaining 73%.
Hi everyone,
BC is really my top choice but the hugely increased numbers make me nervous. Anyone else feel that way?
Applied to CAS as an economics major.
3.8 GPA (GPA is not great but I went to a school for three years with no weighted grades). Senior GPA is much better though.
1830 SAT.
Top 20% of class but school does not rank.
Four senior year APs.
An abnormal number of hours spent of ECs (macconnolly.com). Actually started a successful technology company in my home town (itechnologiesdenver.com) which branched into a nonprofit employment network for homeless individuals. Lots of work time spent on both of these things. Also four years varsity starter for football and three years varsity starter for lacrosse; starting JV my freshman year.
Wrote a great essay about being a closeted gay football player and had good recommendations.
Awards:
Academic honors all 14 trimesters of high school
All conference running back - football (2 years)
All conference - lacrosse (1 year)
Denver Post Young Entrepreneur Award
Colorado Top 100 Influential Under 21
Really hoping that the essay, work ethic, and senior grades are enough to pull through but really anything can happen.
Best of luck to all of you, my peers, in this process. I know it’s so nerve-wracking to just wait at this point.
Do you guys know when decisions are going to be sent through the mail?
So last year BC sent out acceptances on 3/21. ^^
Does anyone know if last year the website said April 1st, as it does this year? Do they just say April 1st to give themselves extra time in case they need it? But will send out letters earlier if they are all completed.
