I am a senior and Boston College is my first choice. I like the location, campus, and overall vibe of the school. My biggest concern though is the daily life of a Boston College student. Do most spend the entire week studying and doing work? Is it possible to go out during the week, or is the course load especially difficult (preferably for a political science or int’l relations/studies major)? Are the weekends fun? What’s the typical nightlife like over the weekend? I suppose my biggest concern is that I’m looking for a “work hard, play hard” school and I feel that BC students might overlook the “play hard” mentality. Also, I forgot to mention I am a male. Is it still possible to have a great time freshman year? What do most freshman guys do during the week/over the weekend? I’m certianly into the drinking and party scene, are most students this way as well?

Work hard, play hard is probably a pretty solid motto for BC. Your workload all depends on your major and how much extra you do. I don’t know much about the workload for poli sci kids, but I wouldn’t think it’s enough to suffocate you from everything else. Going out during the week is possible, but it’s usually Thursday-Saturday night. Freshmen guys definitely have it harder than anyone else on campus, so the probability of getting into somewhere good is low without any connections.

I don’t really want to say how much students drink is the highlight of BC, because it most certainly is not, but to give you an example, the administration didn’t allow a fall concert last year because of the high number of people taken away to the hospital.

We aren’t UChicago, but we aren’t WVU or ASU.

Thanks for the input. What does the typical freshman guy do on the weekends?

If you have connections, party off campus or upperclassmen housing. If you’re with a large group of girls, possibly party off campus or upperclassmen housing. If you’re an average freshman, try to find a party, end up drinking in your dorm with friends.

As a frosh guy, you’ll likely end up partying/hanging out with people on your floor and in your dorm. Amongst yourselves, finding something to do isn’t too terribly difficult. The easiest way to get social connections with upper classmen is to participate in student organizations.
