I am a rising senior, wondering which college would be better for a Pre-Med track. I have heard a lot of mixed reviews which I expect, but I would like a better idea of the pros and cons of the two. I am a hardworking student with good grades, but, I’m concerned with the rumors about grade deflation at either school.
SO many kids go to BU for the sciences and it is so large that I am worried it may be harder to do as well and stand out since there are so many students going for the same thing and they apparently try to weed out the students, whereas in BC I might stand out a little better among the smaller pool and get more one on one time with my science professors.
HOWEVER I read somewhere that BC, though it is a prestigious and challenging school, has a “god awful” science department. Which would be a better fit for me to excel and challenge myself positively and continue onto a decent med-school, possibly even a top tier med school like Harvard or Yale.
Personally I would say choose BU. BU is a great school for pre-med.
I’m really in love with it and I think it might be a better fit, but I really want to do well and among such a large population I’m afraid of not being able to compare and then losing my chances of getting into med school because it’s insanely competitive
The only real weed out is at BU is chem 101 for premed, and a little of chem 102. As long as you make sure to fully understand the material and do at least average, you’ll pass. I think people just get really psyched out, but abrams is great, ALEKS is helpful even if it is annoying, and it’s really not terrible. You don’t need an A in gen chem to go to med school, just shoot for a B. Intro bio is pretty easy. Orgo is a little tough too, but not impossible. Most of the people who weren’t really serious about medicine are “weeded out” by orgo anyway, so I suppose less people=less competition, which can let you stand out. BU has a lot of great research opportunities too, which I think is more important anyway in terms of med school opportunity. It doesn’t even have to be medicine related either, it can be in other aspects of bio, chem, neuroscience, etc. Also, not that you have to be a bio major, but if you are, they know what’s up with premed requirements, and you have prepreoffesional advising available to you. I honestly don’t know much about BC, but also consider what else you like in a college. The campus, vibe, and location are very different at each school. I would choose BU, but then again I’m biased
Thank you so much, this eased the anxiety lol!! I have to get in first so Im getting a little ahead, but BU is pretty much my #1 choice school at this point
