S has been accepted at both, but has only seen BC. What are the pros and cons about both? Important factors to consider? This is a science, pre-med type who hasn’t lived in US since he was 4 (but is American). No time to visit between now and 1 May. Thanks for any and all info.

I faced the same decision except between the two business schools a few years ago. BC and Nova have very similar student bodies for the most part. What it came down to for me was the following:

-I like the city of Boston much more than Philly.
-I think BC is a more prestigious school overall with a better alumni network (especially for what I want to do).
-I wanted to have 3 major sports (including football) instead of just a good basketball team.
-There were a lot of kids from my high school going to Nova and I wanted to get away from home a little bit (4 hours away from BC as opposed to about 1.5 hours from Nova).
-I felt that BC offered a better social scene for me.

I can’t really speak to the differences in the premed programs, but I know that both schools are great choices. You really can’t make a good decision without visiting though, so I suggest that you really try to get there. I know that I liked Nova when I visited, but when I walked around BC I knew it was where I wanted to be. Your son might have the same experience for one of them if he goes to see them before deciding.

Haven’t you ever heard of the “villa-no-fun” reputation? BC is the better school overall with the better reputation. And while people say rep doesn’t matter, we all know that it does, both during college and after. Plus, Boston is the better city when compared to Philly, especially for a college student. Of course I may be a bit biased seeing as I was accepted to BC and denied by nova haha, but I’m sure you can find people that agree with my opinion

i was accepted at both schools and chose bc for several reasons. i am a high school senior and have been taking four classes at villa-no-fun throughout the year. originally i was considering the school as an option but after being there for a couple weeks i started to really not enjoy it. no one speaks in class-not to other students or to the professor. it seems as if no one is in class with their friends or wants to socialize with others. i guess they are doing this in their dorms in stead but in my opinion a college freshman away from home should want to try and make as many friends as possible.

When i walk around campus, i just really dont get a good feeling about the people or the campus in general. i live about 30minutes from the school so getting away was a big thing for me but im also not a fan of philly and it certainly doesnt even being to compare to boston as a college town.

if you can i definitely recommend going on tours for both and if your son has any students from his high school that have gone there tell your son to send them a facebook message and ask them honest questions about the school because the tours are always biased-they want you to come to their school. ive been talking with a few students who i know at bc now and their advice is invaluable because they have already gone through all that i will. hope that helps and hope your son choose BC!
