@Jesuit123 @jenjen2021 I guess my source was correct as I suspected. The Class of 2021 is indeed over-enrolled and the likelihood they will utilize the waitlist is slim to none at this point. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news for the wait list students.
My daughter received an email from her rep that said they haven’t decided anything yet but “it seems unlikely” they will go to the waitlist. They hope to let everyone know for sure by next week.
My DD got this from her rep last Friday.
“…At this time our freshman class is at capacity but we have yet to make final decisions on wait list candidates. We hope to have final decisions conveyed to students within the next week to ten days.”
They are releasing the majority today.
Daughter just received email rejection. Guess this Irish Catholic 3rd generation family is not diverse enough for BC! BC fundraising can hit the delete button for 9 Alumni from our family!
@charlieFL you can’t play the diversity card when 70% of students at BC are Caucasian, with many Catholics. What are your daughter’s stats?
I am a BC alumni and previously active on their fund raising campaigns. The next time they call me looking to me for money and leadership, I will tell them to go ask those special interest groups, acronym identity how I feel today classes and outside the US places where they chose waitlisted applicants ahead of American kids. Previously we worked hard and gave our personal resources to make sure that other kids from all walks of life can afford to go to BC: poor kids, rich kids, and kids of all colors and religions.
Jpm50 writes with confidence and directness which may mean that he or she may be from admissions. It was new news, at least to me, that BC has admission buckets too for other countries that it feels some arbitrary obligation to fill. So much for success going to those who have worked the hardest, regardless of labeling.
May I ask what state you are in?
ACT 33, Varsity athlete on national team, 4.6 gpa, 700 volunteer hours. 8 got in from our community with much lower standards why I made the comment. Irish Catholic immigrant 3rd generation alumni need not apply!
Hit the nail on the head! Ironic how many calls and mailers my family has received the past few weeks for their fundraising campaign. Show your loyalty they all say. Really? Where is your loyalty?
Lets see how the social experimentation helps your fundraising in the future.
Finally closure to this horrific experience for our family!
Those are great stats
Did she apply to CSOM?
I’m an alum and I would also be upset
Charlie, your daughter deserves better than BC. The University is overrated oversaturated. I agree with your analysis of their admissions process. With your daughter’s credentials, she will excell in a different university, and please give the money you would have given to BC to a different university…
Has anyone on the West Coast received a rejection yet? My sister has still heard nothing. Thanks!
Boston College, believe it or not, doesn’t simply accept people based off of only stats. They are trying to fill out a well-rounded class, and believe it or not, there are almost certainly others just like this girl who were accepted, most likely into the honors program. Legacy really isn’t everything, and you can’t expect your donations to determine whether or not your child will be admitted into a class.
Even at the most prestigious schools, students of an extremely high caliber are rejected while others are accepted for the purpose of filling out their class and getting what they need. BC is no different; I’m sure the admissions staff was impressed by your daughter’s stats, but at the same time, they don’t want clones.
Sorry your daughter wasn’t accepted, but do remember that there were over 29,000 applicants, many of whom were also legacies with stats similar to hers.
Let the guy vent please. He’s upset for good reason, and after receiving many requests from BC fundraising about loyallty, they rejected an extremely qualified candidate who was deserving of admittance, perhaps more so than others. I’ll stop there. The good news is another great university is going to get this girl and she will leave her mark there!.
The BC Admissions office announced via Twitter that the rejection emails would be sent out TODAY [Friday, 19th], and it’s now 10pm in Boston. Please could they announce whether all rejection emails have now been sent? If not, by when will they complete sending out these rejections? And if one does NOT receive an explicit rejection, does this imply that one is still on the waitlist? Thanks for any updates.
I am not in admissions but I believe they have gone through the majority of the waitlist and sent decisions. That means those who didn’t get a decision today are still being considered. You could still be accepted or rejected; the decision has yet to be made. I could be wrong, but it seemed like this was how admissions was proceeding.
I did not receive an email which according to their twitter means I’m still being considered. I’m honored but was very prepared for a rejection.
His venting will not change the fact that his daughter wasn’t accepted into BC; college admissions, as everyone has been saying for years now, is truly luck of the draw. There could be fourty girls just like his daughter, but one of them had that quality that made them stand out, whether it was the essay, the grades, or EA v. RD. Like I said, they are not looking for a bunch of clones, they want a class that is diverse grade-wise and in other ways.
She has great stats, that is for sure, I am in no way trying to argue that she wasn’t good enough.
Also, unless you’re donating a building or a million dollars, you can be fairly certain that your ‘fundraising’ will not sway your child’s decision.
So many families donate money to BC and schools like it, and so many of their children apply to the schools. It would be ridiculous to fill a class with legacies simply because their parents donated.
If it’s her dream school, she can try and transfer.
