This popped up in the “latest posts” thread and I couldn’t help but read it. @hedgehogaethers although his venting won’t change anything, it’s something he can do because anybody would be upset in this given situation. being waitlisted and having your hopes up, then being told you won’t be considered is a lot to take in, especially if that school was one of your top choices. your explanation is understandable but you should not make any judgements based on the little to nothing you know of their situation. so before posting, you should think about things in other people’s perspectives or just not say anything at all. thanks.
Thanks for your input, @HeyItsTay. I know exactly how it feels to be waitlisted and then rejected from a top choice school, it just happened to me in the past couple weeks. But thank you for letting me know how it feels.
I understand it sucks, but it happens, and now it’s over. It’s much better to not dwell on the negative things in life; go and make the best of the situation you’re in.
Not trying to start an argument, just stating the truth.
We heard back a day ago. Though BC were predicting notices coming as late as August, in fact they had 29,000+ applications this year. The class filled quickly, and very few waitlisted ever had a chance. Admission for 2021 is now closed.
We are glad not to be hanging until August!
He wasn’t sure, and leaned toward Boston recently, when his friend accepted at another school in that area.
He can now focus on the school he chose without further distraction.
@IvyGrad09, you wrote “Admission for 2021 is now closed.” The last official public announcement from BC Admissions that I’ve seen on Twitter was that those who did not receive a rejection email on May 19th are still on the waitlist, and that BC will make their decisions “Likely by mid-June at the latest.” Have you received a communication from BC that contradicts that? If so, please can you share the exact quote here?
@ivgrad09 according to BC admission twitter, admission is still under consideration for those who were not rejected.
I was not rejected during the Friday endeavor… I was informed that I remain on the waitlist, and will know my standings by mid-June.
“Regretfully, I must inform you that our freshman class for September is filled…”
@Stryker222 (exact quote posted above.) Sorry. I wish us all the best. We all put so much into this complicated and often unpredictable process.
That may be what is in the email, but BC is notorious for calling people in August with spots opening up. Although they did that in the past, it seems unlikely because their freshman class is over-enrolled. All people who are still on the waitlist still have a (very small) chance, regardless of what other people’s letters say who were waitlisted and then denied; it is not a perfect system. In short, if you’re still on the waitlist you still have a chance despite other rejection emails, they have said there aren’t any spots and then offered in the past.

Yes, that’s referred to as “Summer Melt”, and it’s not unique to BC.
Just do a net search for “college admissions summer melt”. You’ll see it’s a big problem across many schools.
If BC truly did over-admit this year, then the summer melt may give them needed breathing room, vs using the waitlist to backfill the empty beds. The adcoms are the only ones who can answer that.
Any idea when to hear final results has anyone tried to call ?
Twitter says by mid June
Hi! Is there anyone who had previously been active on this forum that is still active on the waitlist (active as in was not released recently)?
Yes, I am still active on the waitlist (was not denied on Friday)
Yes, I wasn’t rejected
What school within BC did you apply to?
Does anyone have any updated information on the waitlist and if anyone has been admitted off it recently?
Unfortunately, no. Hoping that by next Friday we will all have news if they keep their mid June promise.
Any updates?
My sister just got the bad news today from the BC Admissions Office: “Please understand that this period of time has been necessary to determine whether there will be available spaces in next year’s class. Regretfully, I must inform you that our freshman class for September is filled, so we are unable to offer you admission to Boston College.” Does this mean that NOBODY was let in off the waitlist?! Please post if you DID just get accepted. CONGRATULATIONS if you did!
