Boston College- Waitlist for Class of 2018

My daughter was notified that she got off the waitlist around May 10th-15th last year. She is just now finishing her freshman year at BC CSOM and could not imagine herself anywhere else.

Chuckly my nephew put his deposit in at Villanova.

@‌Cskitty Congrats to your nephew (and you!) Villanova is a fantastic school! :D

haven’t heard anything yet

@collegebound1111- Admissions will typically start pulling from their waitlist around mid May. They have to review their numbers and start to go through the files of waitlisted students. Good luck!!!

How does BC communicate an offer of admission to the wait listed student? Mail, phone call, email? Also, on the BC website, instructions to the wait listed student indicate that no new information will be considered except grades. It does not say anything about submitting a new letter or contacting anyone. Is their website wrong? Do they really want more communication from the student? Another recommendation letter? Is it not enough to submit your name to be on the wait list? Confusing information is being communicated, if one is to believe the earlier posts on CC versus what BC is publishing on their website.

@1961mom- BC will send a letter if you have been admitted from the waitlist. Although the website says that no new information will be considered except grades, it is wise to send any new awards

your child might have received since applying. It is not required to send another letter of recommendation but many students write a letter that if admitted from the waitlist, they would attend. BC will start admitting students from their list around mid May. Good luck!!!

Thank so much. Very helpful.

hey yall, I spoke with an on-call admissions counselor while visiting the bc campus the other day and she told me that as of yesterday, May 2, the director of undergrad admission announced to the rest of the counselors that they pretty much had met their class size for 2018.

she said that this meant that there most likely would not be any waitlist activity, though there always can be some movement later as students who deposited at bc hear back from other school’s waiting lists

Boston College has not made any decisions on the waitlist. It is way too early for them to call. The admissions is not going to tell anyone the number of students for the class for the reason they do not want to be bombarded with emails and calls on the subject.

@claraadactyl, really? It’s strange for an admissions counselor to release that information but I do not doubt your credibility. This makes me very upset because I thought maybe we would all have a better chance of getting off the BC waitlist compared to other waitlists due to the fact that BC has a low yield (25-27% last year) and I was told that last year they had to pull quite a few off the waitlist. I guess it’s different this year :frowning: Sad because I don’t particularly like the school I committed to.

@sunshine022, It would be highly unlikely that BC will not use their waitlist. In previous years BC has always pulled from the list. Do not give up hope!!! You will start seeing in the next couple of weeks that people will be commenting on this thread that they got off the list.

@sunshine022:
I’m going to take a more pragmatic view. If you’re not turning your focus and passion to your “Plan B” school, you really need to be doing that now.

Although you may see some in future weeks say they got off the waitlist, the reality is the odds are low for any individual. And there is nothing in your control that will change the odds for you. BC will use the waitlist to fill in the diversity holes for the type of class it’s trying to build. If it already admitted many students with a profile like yours, you can’t change that.

Keep a thread of hope for BC, you’ll be doing yourself a disservice if you keep your heart set on it.
Good luck.

@claraadactyl‌ ugh really?? now im kind of scared. i mean im OK with the school I have committed to but I would LOVE to go to BC. Just saying, there were a couple people in my school that did get into BC however, one person also got into Cornell and a couple others aren’t going for financial reasons. keep your hope alive but start looking towards the school where you put your deposit!

Good luck to everyone!! Let’s just try to make it through AP week (if you’re taking them) and while I am upset, we still have many exciting events to look forward to as the year comes to an end for us seniors. Hoping for y’all and myself

@claraadactyl‌ The chances of an admissions rep giving out this information is highly unlikely. These reps usually don’t give out any information at all concerning the waitlist. From reading last years posts for the class of 2017 waitlist, the earliest potential students will hear is mid-may (May 14). Usually it is communicated through email however apparently last year a few calls went out as well as some students noticing a change in their agora portal. Wishing the best of luck to everyone out there

@WaitlistOptimist‌, I know many students from last year who got off the waitlist. None of these students received emails or phone calls. They received letters in the mail but many noticed an F and a P tab in their agora portal a few days before their actual letter arrived.

@dreambig101‌ sorry, when I said email I meant letters via snail mail… My mistake. And on last years waitlist page there was talk of phone calls but I was surprised by that as well.

@WaitlistOptimist‌ , if you are insinuating that i am not accurately relaying what a boston college admissions officer told me two days ago, that would be a super unsettling accusation because there is no reason why i would misinform anyone. like most people on this thread, i too am waiting to hear back from bc, which is why i am similarly discouraged from what i was told.

not to mention that my own high school college counselor has already spoken to me and several of my classmates who were placed on the waiting list saying that she too was told by our regional representative that there would be “negligible waitlist activity” by bc

once again, i am hoping for the best for everyone
