Boston College

Let's hear it - teaching quality? class size? How are the academics at BC? Is it really as spirited as it seems? And what about the dorms - not necessarily the Upper and Newton debate - are they nice? A/C? room size, etc.

you might check the BC forum specifically for more info... but as a current student, I can say the academics are really top-notch. This semester, for example, I've had one lecture class with 60 kids, and the rest with 12-15. BC's reputation is rising, as evidenced by the undergrad biz school, for example, recently entering the top 15 nationally (according to Businessweek). I would say that it is definitely highly-spirited (everyone I know here LOVES BC, attends all the games that they can get tickets to, etc.) The freshman dorms, I'd say, are "standard". Room size is 16x12, and each roommate gets their own desk with attached shelf and 3 drawers, a large dresser with 5 drawers, a decent sized in-the-wall closet, and more shelfs attached to the wall. I have beds bunked, meaning we have room for a fridge and futon. There's no A/C in the freshman dorms, but this really isn't an issue at all except in maybe the first 2 weeks of school (Boston isn't exactly hot during the academic year, and in April right now, it is currently 45 degrees!). Upperclassmen dorms are amazing (hotel-like) with most upperclassmen living in 6 or 8 person suites (with common rooms and kitchens). About 85% of all undergrads live on campus.

Thank you - very helpful and thoughtful response. I appreciate you taking the time.
