Newton Campus Questions

I’m an incoming freshman and got placed in a double in Hardey Hall on Newton. I’ve been told I was placed on the “basement” floor. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this? And are the floors carpeted on this floor? Also, how much of a nuisance is the absence of an undergraduate library on Newton? I’m planning to spend a good deal of time in the library, and it seems incredibly inconvenient to have to go to Upper all the time.

Here is the real truth from a current BC student, despite what a bunch of loser parents on here think. Newton sucks. It’s a known fact. The rooms are carpeted. The fact that there is no library is a non issue because during the day you will be on main campus in classes and between classes doing your daily thing, and when you go back to Newton, you can study in the Law School classes which are real nice. The RA’s generally don’t give a ***** in the basement for some reason. That’s where all the best pre games are and where Newton parties are.

I guess I’m one of those loser parents. Thank you trojaneagle for such praise.

While it’s true that current students do provide valuable input, it’s never wise to take base decisions solely on a single data point. It’s important to know if something is an outlier or not.

Whenever I’ve spoken of the intangible positives of living on Newton, it was based on the input from our son and all his friends. It was also based on various adults I know who went to BC and lived in Newton and were happy to see their sons/daughters living in Newton. And that input was also largely supported by the years of discussions about Newton in this forum.

Nothing is ever a perfect fit for everyone, and that includes wherever you live. A common sentiment is the Newton bus does get old. Some have other reasons for disliking it. Anywhere you live will have its drawbacks.

For those wondering about Newton, rather than relying on just me or trojaneagle, please search this BC forum for past discussions. There is lots of great input from students over the past years.

I’m not really sure what type of student you are but for me coming from a freshmen boy with Newton friends, Newton kids would switch into upper if they could, not really the other way around. It is the sentiment that a forced triple on upper = a room in newton. One thing that I do have to say is that although freshmen boys on upper could have more fun and easier access to parties, freshmen boys on newton had more friends that were girls because of the closer community. This can come to help you when you need a good “ratio” of guys to girls to get into parties or when you don’t have nothing to do. Upper classmen tell freshmen girls where there are parties because they want them there, and those girls sometimes tell their male friends, so that is one sweet thing newton has over upper.

So although Newton sucks, Zack, you will be a Stud.
