Boston Colleges?

Hey Im currently a junior in high school. Im taking the SATs for the first time this Saturday (march 9th). I visited Boston a couple of years ago with my family looking for colleges with my older brother, and I Loved it. I don't have the brains to go to Harvard or MIT, but I was looking at some schools like BU, Northeastern Univeristy and UMass and they seem like decent schools that aren't that hard to get into. I get As and Bs in school and I'm looking to get into Music. Also I want to go to a school that's has a great campus life with lots of stuff to do. So does anyone have any ideas on what schools in Boston could work?

Boston College
Brandeis
Tufts
(aren’t “in” Boston but are close)

The ones you mentioned, plus maybe Boston College or Tufts as reaches if you do really well on the SAT. Brandeis is pretty close.

If you’re interested in music, I believe Berkeley College of Music is in Boston; it might be worth visiting.

Definitely visit Berklee if you’re into Music.

Yeah Berkeley is a great schools for music, but it’s insanely hard to get into. Thanks for all your comments by the way.

OK, for the record (pardon the pun), the music college in Boston is the Berklee College of Music, not Berkeley.
What would be good for you depends a lot on your GPA, rigor of courses, and test scores and of course what you are looking for in terms of majors, school size and atmosphere. Are you looking for a performance major or music theory or ???
This is a really good map showing the locations of Boston area schools.

There are quite a few. And here is the corresponding list [Boston area colleges and universities](http://www.house.gov/capuano/links/ma_colleges.shtml)
You mentioned UMass Boston, but I don’t think that is what you are looking for since it is a commuter school. Northeastern is harder to get into than BU, but I wouldn’t call them “easy” to get into. Also consider Emerson and the conservatories…
You can use a good college search tool to see the admissions statistics and other data for each school in one place. Here is one set of results for music majors in and close to Boston -

Berklee for music as others have said, although you won’t have the “great campus life with lots of stuff to do” at Berklee. However, it is a good trade off as Berklee is a fantastic school for music.

Otherwise, schools in Boston that have great campuses include Boston College, Tufts and Northeastern. These are all fairly difficult to get into and you’ll need high SAT scores. BU is a decent school as well although it doesn’t really have a “great campus”; it has more of an urban feel like NYU. Lots of stuff to do though.

UMass Boston is much more of a commuter school so you won’t get a typical college experience.

Last time I saw Northeastern its “campus” looked like a series of city buildings . One would be hard pressed to know that it was actually a university. What makes its campus “great”?

Northeastern has invested a lot into making its campus look like more of a real campus. They have created green spaces, added more dorms etc. According to Wikipedia, “$485 million in new facilities, including residence halls, academic and research facilities, and athletic centers” have been built since 1996.Here’s a video (skip the first 40 seconds) [Northeastern University - An Urban Oasis - YouTube](<a href=“Northeastern University - An Urban Oasis - YouTube”>Northeastern University - An Urban Oasis - YouTube)

So people who have visited both BU and NEU recently think NEU has more of a “real” campus. NEU is also more compact, while BU is strung out along the length of Comm.Ave.
Still both are URBAN campuses, not “pretty” and in the middle of everything! If you really enjoy city life both are excellent choices.
BC is very pretty but is a few miles outside downtown Boston, but on the trolley line (the “Green” line of the transit system).

You haven’t seen the campus in 15 years if you say that.

Hmm… thanks, a very nice improvement.

BU, NorthEastern, and Umass for business are all hard to get into also plus BU and NorthEastern are expensive without any scholarship
