Hi everyone.
I noticed that BU doesn’t have a nursing program, which would be a conflict for me when applying. Do you know what they would do to students where their majors aren’t offered?
Thanks.
Hi everyone.
I noticed that BU doesn’t have a nursing program, which would be a conflict for me when applying. Do you know what they would do to students where their majors aren’t offered?
Thanks.
Why would you apply somewhere where they don’t offer your major?
If you want a degree not offered at your current school your only option is to transfer to a school that offeres it.
Sorry for being obvious but if you are going into Nursing narrow your choices to schools that offer that program.
I visited the school, and I immediately fell for it because I believed it was the one for me. However, when I found out they didn’t offer my major, I was disappointed and wondered if there was another way. Guess not then. Thanks for the help!
Nope, no other way unless you choose something other than nursing.
I would be leery of deciding a college “is the one for me” based on a few hours visit. Still, there are options for people thinking of nursing at a college w/o that degree. Foremost would be an accelerated program offered to those who already have a Bachelor degree. See http://www.aacn.nche.edu/media-relations/fact-sheets/accelerated-programs
Now that I wrote that, let me recommend against it. First, how confident are you this is what you want? Do you have actual exposure to nursing already in a volunteer or paid capacity? If not then you haven’t decided to be a nurse, you are interested in exploring it as a career. Most nursing programs give priority or actually require exposure to be accepted. Second, extra years of schooling is expensive and there is going to be less aid available. Third, you might not get in. You’re better off IMHO attending a college with a BSN degree, with a strong preference for any that is direct admit (look that up if you aren’t sure what it means).
Actually BU had a nursing school but it closed in 1987.
Okay, maybe I over exaggerated a little bit that I immediately fell for it. However, Boston University was a school that I have been looking at for a while, and I love the city. Some of my friends attend BU, and have told me wonderful things about their experiences. Yes, nursing is a career I am interested in exploring, and I will be exposed to it when I begin to volunteer at my local hospital. Nevertheless, thank you for your advice. It is greatly appreciated.
If you like the city, off the top of my head I can name a few other universities there that offer nursing.
Boston College: http://www.bc.edu/schools/son/programs/undergrad.html
Northeastern University: http://www.northeastern.edu/bouve/nursing/programs/bsn/
Here’s a really good list of nursing programs in Boston. Note that some are CCs or state schools: http://nursejournal.org/schools/massachusetts-nursing-schools/
The bottom line is that there are a lot of really great nursing programs out there. You just have to find one in a school that you like.
What appealed to you most about BU?
Thank you! I was looking into Northeastern too, but I have doubts that Ill be accepted in because it is a reach. What appealed to me the most about BU was basically the rigorous academics, the diversity, and the city life.
