What do you mean it came to a halt? I thought the new data science building was slated to open in 2022…
It is under construction and should open in 2023.
Or may be even later? BU forced furloughs on their staff, can’t imagine why the funding for this project wouldn’t be impacted or delayed. Personally I hated the ugly design and architecture, wish they had decided to spend the money on something more worthwhile.
Sorry if this question has already been asked but does BU typically send any of the acceptance material via regular mail or is it pretty much all online? Thanks.
It seems to have all been online so far!
Thanks so much. We were seeing this with our daughter. We just kept expecting to see something in the regular mail.
Yes, I feel like we got more things in the mail before we applied! We had some earlier acceptances so for us I think it’s perspective - event info is just starting to trickle out.
My son and I attended some Zoom events this week. But the only way to register is through the student portal – he had to register there, and then once he got the email he could register me as well so I would get the Zoom link in my email. In a Zoom tour the campus looked really quiet, compared to all the students in the video tours at the website. I did see BU plans to require that all students get vaccinated, which should help…
no they aren’t sadly. i just came to visit the campus and all the buildings are closed to visitors and their security is pretty tight because of covid, but the did set up a self-guided tour website that was actually really helpful! if you look it up it should pop up on their website.
I don’t know if it’s the best resource but I’ve been following Boston University Parent & Family Programs on Facebook. They had a nice presentation on community service opportunities.
BU announced that there would be no snail mail notifications this year. Odd considering how much promotional material they mail out.
The classic thing is that the only snail mail brochure we received was titled something like “How to pay for BU”
This review is 4 years old. I think that between residence, seminars, courses, projects, and international opportunities it will be amazing. Talk with someone in the program now. I have walked through the residence and spoken to current students. The program has more to offer than many residential colleges at other equally highly selective universities. BU 2030 and the HUB changes have only strengthened Kilachand. I was reminded that if you go in understanding that you will need to work to blend the honors curriculum and program offerings with an engineering degree, you will enjoy huge benefits. It is not seemless or for everbody. I am so excited and naturally enjoy moving between science, arts, humanities; big and small communities. Good luck!
My Dad and I were talking about what kind of class BU will build this year. With BU 2030, the HUB strategy, and huge fund raising success 2 years back, and the great COVID/Cultural admissions reset this year. BU will have an even more amazing 2025 class. Several of my friends and I are all Ivy qualified and waitlisted or denied. Some have need, some do not. Denied at either/both Tufts or NU, and accepted at BU. Like me, these were all sweet spot schools for me. (CMU, NU, BU, Tufts would have loved any of these). Aside from my Ivy’s which include a waitlist, BU is a sweet spot school for me because of biomedical engineering, theater, and visual arts. I don’t care much about and think beyond institutional lines (very easy to cross). I am most sorry for my friend with best stats, all boxes checked, including national/global awards since 6th grade, gifted and talented at JHU, perfect SAT, 14AP, and great sports. All he ever wanted was Ivy and he was denied or waitlisted everywhere. Now he is choosing from BU, NU, and Virginia Tech. All great schools but he is very bitter, his mom calls my mom to cry and complain about BU and she knows I am thrilled to admitted and attending. So selfish. But who cares, I am SO EXCITED.
Boston was my first choice geography. These are all very different schools. I didn’t apply to BC because I am seeking an engineering degree. Then I want a the most engineering-theater-visual arts school I could find. Between BU (accept) and NU (denied) I would have tough choice to make. Biomedical Engineering. Both have solid program. BU attracting more research and professors. NU strong and growing in Design. BU strong in theater, growing in design and visual arts. BU Kilachand Honors is compelling to me. NU more vocational/coop than BU. It I had been admitted to BU and NU I would choose BU. My dad and I looked at strategic plans and financial statements. We like what BU is doing.
Bio Medical Eng is phenomenal at BU, but is a tough major (anywhere) to maintain high gpa in. Will have to put in best efforts.
Very exciting that you and your dad are sitting down and diving into what BU has to offer. It’s starting to feel real isn’t it! We’ll be diving into the course offerings and reviewing the chemistry program to make sure it will be a fit with CGS…and maybe linguistics. I think you have the more eclectic combination though - that should be very fun to pursue with an anchor in biomedical engineering. Cheers on the positivity and celebrating your acceptance to BU!
Thank you! And congratulations to your family. I am buried in APs still. A lot of oil painting to do with art portfolio. BU things becoming VERY REAL giving me an extra push. Hike with Kilachand student tomorrow afternoon. BU gear shopping then hike after a mock AP Calc exam tomorrow! Wishing everyone happiness and excitement.
I’ve been helping my son research BU since he is buried in early college classes and deciding between two very different options (wish he could have time to investigate after his finals are done in mid-May!). He’s attending a Zoom meeting tomorrow with the academic counselors in engineering. But I found reference to a nascent Combat Robotics club – he watched Battle Bots this spring and is very excited about that! I just hope all the clubs can meet next year, as the lack of clubs this year really put a damper on early college. I liked the faculty question and answer session, but the engineering facilities Zoom tour was odd because the campus looked empty and the tour guides couldn’t go into any of the cool lab spaces. The videos produced pre-Covid make it look so much more exciting.
Is the BU portal under maintenance?
