Hi everyone!
I just applied to the B.U. RISE program, and I’m just waiting for the recommendation letters from my teachers to roll in. It’ll probably (hopefully!) all be in by the Early Decision deadlines. I was just wondering- is anyone out there also applying? Does anyone know how selective it is, in general? (I know the website says how many attended out of all the applicants, but it doesn’t say how many were accepted.) Does the Early Decision help admission chances at all? What fields did you guys choose?
Curious to see how many of you guys are out there! >3<
@agirlinasweater
Hey!
I am also applying for the B.U. RISE program. I have not finished my essay or received my transcript from my high school yet. I want to try to send everything off at once by the Early Decision deadline, but it probably won’t happen. One recommendation letter complete, but still waiting on two more. The website said that the RISE Program is highly competitive and selective. They received 650 applications for 98 placements in 2014. So that’s like a 15% acceptance rate, if they are telling the truth.
Hey! I havent applied yet but can someone chance me?
GPA 3.875/4.0
SAT Reasoning: 2400
SAT 2 Chem: 800
Classes taken (Sci and math)
HONORS GEOMETRY
HONORS ALGEBRA 2
HON PRECALC
AP STATS
AP CHEMISTRY
HONORS BIOLOGY
HONORS CHEMISTRY
Is it worth applying now? The last day is March 16, and while I could get all my stuff together, the likelihood of getting admitted is pretty slim now, right?
I think it says on the app that ED helps (?) could be wrong though. @hydropane and @agirlinasweater, hopefully you both get in regular decision. @dreamchaser98 your academic stats are very impressive, but I have a feeling they emphasize the essay and Rec forms A LOT. I got in with decent academics and somewhat sub-par ECs, but I know my rec forms were very good, and my essay was, at least, above average. Good luck to everyone!
Hey everyone, I applied for Boston’s RISE program this year too! I applied for 1)medical laboratory research and 2) chemistry. I applied regular decision and here are my stats. Can someone chance me?
GPA: unweighted: 3.9something
GPA: weighted: 4.7something
SAT: 2320
Higher Level Classes:
AP Biology
AP Calculus AB
AP Calculus BC
AP Chemistry (1st year of my HL Chemistry class)
IB Physics SL
AP Statistics
plus lots of other non math and science AP classes like AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition (1st year of IB English HL), IB History HL, lots of dual enrollment classes
rec letters: hopefully good?
essay: i dont know because i havent seen anyone elses, but i thought it was good
Also, can other people who applied this year post their stats too (even if you were deferred in early decision).
Finally, Good luck to everyone who applied. I hope to see you guys this summer!
@VivaLaIvy this is probably really late, but I think as long as you apply by the deadline it shouldn’t matter how late you applied as long as everything is postmarked by the deadline.
@hydropane I chose Medical Laboratory and Bioengineering I think-- (whiCH OF COURSE IS PROBABLY WHAT EVERYONE SIGNS UP FOR AAAAAAA ;A;)
Good luck with the deferral bruh!!
@extraneous101 those are great academics but again it’s probably more the rec forms and the essay that play a significant role. My stats for ED acceptance were
4.3 weighted
4.0 Unweighted
2340 SAT
-AP Bio
-Honors Chem
-Precalc Honors
-AP US History
-AP World History
-AP Spanish language+culture
-AP Lang+Comp
Again, I know that my Rec forms were great. Also, I’m pretty sure my essay was what they were wanting to see, so that likely has a lot to do with their decision. ECs weren’t all that great. If you’re on here, you probably have better ECs than I do.
@sai1129 Yeah, everyone who applies probably has stellar stats, so the recommendation forms and essay are probably the more significant portion. What field did you get assigned?
@literatechild lol its okay, i haven’t heard back from my ED either. They said they would reply in 4-6 weeks of the deadline for ED though, so we should definitely get an answer by March 23 I think.
stats:
GPA: unweighted: 3.9
SAT: 2400
SAT II Physics: 740 (idk if i sent this in)
Classes:
currently in Precalc
Bio, Physics, Chem
no APs or IBs (my school doesn’t offer any until senior year unless you’re in calc)
all my school’s classes are “taught at an honors level”
