Hello.
I’m currently a freshman enrolled at the University of Houston, and I’ve just finished my first semester here.
Last year, as a senior in high school, I applied to Boston University and I was offered their non-binding Guaranteed Transfer plan, and I accepted it. What that offered me was to attend any college and receive a 3.0 or higher GPA, and I could automatically transfer to BU (without any sort of application) my sophomore year.
Well, I liked UH more than I thought I would, but I still want to leave home and feel like attending university in Boston would be very good for me. Other than that, seeing as my grades turned out good here at UH during my first semester, I applied to the Honors College and I’m awaiting their response.
My question is, considering BU’s price, would it be a wise decision to still transfer even if I get in to the Honors College here? My majors are History and Philosophy, and both colleges have promising programs for those. I just feel like I haven’t been all that academically challenged at UH, although that will probably change if I get into Honors, but would BU be worth the price, in terms of its education quality and post-graduation opportunities? One of the reasons I preferred BU in the first place was that I feel like attending BU, because it’s more prestigious, might engender better job opportunities later (although I do wish to go to graduate school). Also if you are interested in rankings, BU is ranked #42 and UH is #189 by the US News coll rankings.
Thank you so much in advance for all of the help!

With degrees in History and Philosophy, you most definitely will be looking at graduate school to be able to get a job. With that in mind, stay at UH and do your absolute best. It will help you get into graduate school. If you switch to BU with potentially tougher competition for grades, then you might not do as well, which can hurt when it comes time to apply to grad school. I would venture to say that your particular majors are not going to be worth the cost of attending BU undergrad, and it would be a huge waste of money that you (your parents?) could save for your graduate degree instead, or for other opportunities. Glad to hear you like UH!
