Is English your primary language?

Is English the primary language spoken at home?
If you answer no to either question, you have to submit the English section of Toefl test.

Weird…I moved here three years ago, so i would have to answer no to both. But I took the ACT and the SAT. What should I do?

Yea... my counselor told me if your reading score is greater than 600, you really dont need to take TOEFL because your score is higher than 80% of high school students. But it is really your choice; if you want to emphasize that you are a fob, then take TOEFL and do well!

And there's nothing wrong with taking ACT and SAT. I dont know why you are panicking?

The problem is if they say I answer "no" to both, I HAVE to take the TOEFL.
And i didn't. Should I answer both "no" and send my ACT score anyway?

ahhhh,, this is really troublesome. I would definitely call BU to find out.
Tell them your SAT and ACT reading scores and ask them whether or not you should take TOEFL.

Boston University Four-Year Colleges average SAT: 1333 (CR/MT) 660 (WR) and ACT: 29.

If your scores are higher, I'm pretty sure you dont have to take TOEFL even though you answer "no" on both questions. That's what I'm doing. If colleges have problem with me not taking TOEFL, screw them is what i would like to say, but I'll just take it wasting more than $100.

You will end up tripping your own self up and knocking your self out of the box for blatant misrepresentation as on the first page of the common app it does ask the following questions (check boxes)

US permanent resident visa; citizen of ___ Alien registration number _____
Other citizenship

Country(ies) Visa type

If you are not a US citizen and live in the United States, how long have you been in the country? ______________

The common app also ask where were you born?

Do you really think that when you fill out this information that a flag will not be raised as admissions counselors will know right then and there at it would be unlikely that your first language would be english.

tell the truth, take the TOFEL if necessary and move on.

I answered no to both also.
My situation:
-International
-Lived in an english speaking country for 10 years
-Got way over 600 on CR and W
-Self studied AP english
-Extremely fluent in english

I emailed BU about this couple of months ago and this is what they said:

Dear NoFX:

Thank you for your message and for your interest in Boston University. Although you have high done quite well on the reading and writing sections of the SAT exam, if your first language is not English you still need to take the TOEFL or IELTS exam and send us an official report of you exam scores. *Taking the TOEFL exam will make you a stronger candidate for admission to Boston University. *

We recommend that you take the TOEFL/IELTS exam at least one month prior to the admissions deadline (January 1), as it will take three to four weeks for you to receive your scores. The TOEFL/IELTS is mandatory for international students, and we suggest that you submit your scores (with the rest of your application materials) by January 1. We ask that you submit your TOEFL/IELTS scores to us as soon as possible, however, if you cannot submit your scores before the deadline please inform our office of the day on which you intend to take the test.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our office. We look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Best wishes,

Joe

Boston University

I'm not sure if this will help since I'm an international student...

BU is so stupid, trying to be selective and sophisticated. That's exactly why they'll never become one of the ivies. Fine, i'll just check one.
P.S. BU is a great school, that was just out of desperation and frustration.
