How far is Tufts from the heart of Boston exactly? It appears that the area around Tufts is not a city, but more of a suburb. Am I right about this?

it's less than 10 mins away. i'd venture to say 5, but it may be closer to 10.

From the heart of boston? 30-40 minutes all transportation time factored in (from dorms). I think the 5-10 minutes just means getting to the T which is in the center of Davis Square, the hub of Medford that opens the pipeline to Boston.

Davis square is nice though also. As far as i know.

It's funny, some kids go into Boston a lot, others don't at all. My son is one of those who is in Boston regularly, at least once a week. Today classes were cancelled due to the blizzard, so he and a friend went into Boston to hang out.

It's a short walk from campus to Davis, 5 minutes from downhill, 10 from uphill. If the weather is really crummy he takes the Joey from campus to Davis. From Davis it's two stops to Harvard Square and a few more to downtown Boston. He says Tufts is in the perfect location, with its own campus in the suburbs with Cambridge and Boston within easy reach.

And yeah, Davis Square is quite nice in its own right, with its own quirky and cheap restaurants and street scene. I had never been there before even though I lived in Boston during my early 20s. We enjoyed Davis during Parents Weekend, but boy did we feel old. :)
