No, not in philosophical/aspirational terms...but in pure miles. Google Maps says it's 1.7 miles from Harvard campus to Tufts campus...yet I am hearing of 30 and 40 minute drives....trying to schedule tours...:)

It is very close. Couple of miles. But depending on the time of the day and traffic it can take awhile. You’re driving through Davis square that’s usually congested. But I don’t think it’s 40 min. Not during the day. Why don’t you check on google maps in real time traffic at the time of the day you’re planning to travel. This will give you a good idea.

I’d say 15-20 minutes for the drive itself (unless it’s at rush hour) but then another 15-20 to find parking and walk to admissions. If you have time available I’d recommend getting to Harvard Square early and taking a walk around. Stop off for coffee, lunch, or some ice cream or do a little shopping before your tour. Scheduling in some extra time will cut down on traffic anxiety.

100 SAT points, .2 GPA, and a whole lot of awesome ECs Oh, wait … not in aspirations … my bad.

40 minutes to drive 1.7 miles. That’s about right given Boston traffic. Tufts is about 3-4 miles from Harvard Square actually.

I have driven more than a few times - 20 minutes - well, 30 years ago. Distance - no more than 3 miles The issue is the stop lights. the parties there are better - the girls were better at partying.

I don’t think it’s taken me that long when I’ve done it - if it’s not the middle of rush hour it shouldn’t take more than 10 or 15 minutes. Paying for parking around Harvard isn’t cheap. I’d be inclined to visit Tufts and then take the T to Harvard, it will give you a chance to see what Davis Square is like. That however will take half an hour and includes a ten minute walk to Davis Square. (Harvard Square is also worth checking out.)

^^ It depends which side of the Square you start from and time of day. I do agree at night or little traffic is 15 minutes.

Thanks guys! this helps very much…and we’ve decided to either grab a cab (less stress) or grab the T (cheaper) than try it by car.

Taking the T is actually a very good idea. It’s a ten minute walk to Davis Square from Tufts, then a straight shot on the red line from Davis to Harvard Square. The T lets you out right at Harvard. Be sure to check out the station art!

I know that Tufts has a free shuttle but not sure if it goes to Cambridge. I believe it does stop at Davis T station so if you are with parents and don’t want to walk the 10min you might be able to hop on Tufts shuttle.

Or 96 Bus (scope out chicks from Medford with big hair) … about 15 minutes if you hit it right.
