Has anyone applied for a summer internship at a boutique bank? There are SO many out there and I don't even know where to start looking for which ones I want to apply to. I want to work in NYC this summer and have already applied to the BB's but I don't go to a target school (I go to Johns Hopkins) so it's gunna be hard for me to get one with a BB. Where did you guys apply as far as boutiques go?

"Boutique" is way too broad a term. What do you mean by boutique exactly? I've seen it used to refer to anything from lazard to some small regional 5 man shop and anything in between

The top boutiques are lazard, moelis, greenhill, evercore, and gleacher though you're going to probably have a hard time with these if they don't come to your campus. Other top names include perella weinberg partners, centerview, and so on.

Besides these generalist firms, other good boutiques are ones which might focus on a particular sector, such as miller buckfire (restructuring), allen & co (media) or KBW (financial institutions)

Does your school give you access to an alumni directory of any sort? With smaller banks, the best way to get noticed is through reaching out to alumni at the banks. I'm sure there's plenty of hopkins alums out there.

I've applied to lazard, moelis, greenhill, evercore so far, have received interviews at 2 of them and havent heard back yet from the others

Is it true that the compensation at many of the major boutiques, atleast for first year analysts, are similar to that of BBs, and that they only differ in prestige?
