Bowdoin Class of 2019 Prospective Applicants

Accepted!!! I am an international applicant from Japan. This is unbelievable… I applied for FA and also I didn’t even submit my SAT reasoning scores (I submitted my SAT subjects tho!). Congrats to those who got in!

My friend is valedictorian with a perfect 4.0 and a 2270 and she was waitlisted. Bummer! But that means that everyone who was accepted is truly exceptional. Best of luck, guys!

Waitlisted- 34 ACT, 4.02 GPA (UW), top 5% of class
Congrats to everyone accepted!

accepted!!! i’m THRILLED, bowdoin has been my one true love for the past two years and i will DEFINITELY be attending

(accepted at bates and colby too, rejected at middlebury, and waiting to hear from hamilton, claremont mckenna, georgetown, gettysburg, skidmore, bard, and trinity – but either way i’m going to bowdoin)

Super thrilled to be accepted too! Bowdoin was my clear top choice during the summer. Now I’m conflicted with my choices. Hopefully visiting Bowdoin in April will help me better decide where I want to go.

Legacy status doesn’t matter anymore. With a billion dollar endowment, alums should know that if you can’t donate millions, then don’t expect any advantage w admissions at all. You would be better off if you were from (enter foreign address of choice). You will however get a nice letter from the Dir of Admission though making it look as if you matter/ he cares. Money is better left in your pockets than in Brunswick. On the other hand I have heard that if your s or d is a cplus or bmin student but you are the ceo of a multinational corporation and are willing to donate 10 mil you can actually buy a seat in the class of 201? I guess that’s the new “offer of the college”.

Marbles sounds like a hella salty rejected legacy applicant

Anyways, accepted to Bowdoin!! Almost regretted not applying ED so this is a pleasant surprise

Waitlisted. Am I screwed for the Ivies and Williams?

That’s pretty unfair. I understand your gripes with the whole legacy situation, but they can’t take every single legacy applicant. And with the number of apps being what they are, they’d rather take frankly better candidates over people who have a connection with the school. I don’t think I’m naïve in saying they do care if you are a legacy. That is why letters go out to all legacies notifying of thier son/daughter etc regardless of their decision. I understand your frustration, and on one level I agree with it, but lets keep this an uplifting thread.

@vapourwave‌ Every college looks for something different. When you get to this tier, schools can be very unpredictable, so don’t give up hope yet!

For those of you who were disappointed with your FA offer, I’d really encourage y’all to contact the office of FA. We first received an underwhelming offer when my sister was first accepted, but the office of financial aid really helped us out when we explained parts of our FAFSA to them.

Anyway, I got accepted to bowdoin yesterday and I’m really excited to check it out!

@shivabowlchamp‌ hi! Congrats on your acceptance! May I message you for some help on the FA process please?

@Qwerty568‌

that’s sound advice. thanks.

I’m really excited about being accepted to Bowdoin class of 2019! I also got into Bates but I thing Bowdoin is far and away my first choice.

And I’m from Los Angeles, California where it’s sunny and 72 degrees every day. Looking forward to experiencing the seasons.

Guys, I went from 0 aid to 35k aid. dont give up just yet

@redhat12‌ was that after contacting the FA office? How did you get that? I am in a similar situation as @shivabowlchamp‌

I’m also in a similar situation to a few of you. I’ve already scheduled an appointment of sorts to talk with the Student Aid Office this upcoming Tuesday.
How do I phrase my appeal for financial aid? I was given none to start, but I’m going to need a decent amount to even consider Bowdoin.

In our experience, bowdoin typically looks at your assets(house, trust fund) more than other schools. As a result, our house had really appreciated, so it was worth way more than we could ever afford to buy, so we explained that to them, among other things. If I were you salty spittoon, asking them where they see you getting the money is a good start. I reckon the best way to get this done is to talk earnestly about your finances, not begging them for more aid. Talk about why you see a discrepancy between their aid offer and your financial situation.
