Hey guys! Bowdoin is currently my top choice right now, so I can’t help but check back several times a day to see if anyone has posted. I wanted to see if there were any other people who were applying for Class of 2019! Woohoo.

class of 2019 applicants: feel free to message me with questions or just to talk about bowdoin! (i’m a member of the class of '18)

I’m planning on applying to Bowdoin as well, unless I get into my ED school. It’s probably my second choice currently Best of luck to you, @student197!

@collegebound752 What made you choose Bowdoin over your other schools? Haha and what kind of student do they tend to look for?

Thank you, @LAMuniv! Though I hope you get into your ED school also :)

Long story short, I toured my top 3 schools in April (Bowdoin, Kenyon, & Wesleyan) and my choice was clear. I had been in love with kenyon for months at the time BUT after visiting Bowdoin I was sold. It’s hard to say what type of student they look for because it’s a very diverse place but they tend to attract very intellectual, outdoorsy, friendly, liberal kids. With good taste in food

Completely sold! Bowdoin is my No. 1

Hey guys! Bowdoin is one of the schools I am seriously considering applying to ED. I love the size and location. Also, the atmosphere seems really welcoming. Hopefully Class of 2019 Polar Bear:)

Honestly, I don’t even know what it is about Bowdoin that I like so much. Haha I have never been there. I only know one person who goes there, so all my knowledge comes from reading about it online. I would really like to go to Explore Bowdoin so I can actually experience what it’s like over there.

But this is so cool being able to see fellow hopeful class of 2019 polar bears! I always see people going mainly for LACs like Amherst and Williams.

Amherst and Williams were a bit too isolated for me. I liked Brunswick when I visited Bowdoin, a lot!

Where are you from student197? I know 3 students who go there, and one of my friends got in this year, but decided not to attend? Just need to prepared for the harsh winters! I have heard that they can be brutal…

@mdw1519 I am from Washington! So I’m quite far away. Haha yes, I heard about the brutal winters. But I absolutely do not like the sun/hot weather, so I looked for colder places.

Lol, the reason Bowdoin isn’t by top was because it felt too urban for me… That probably says a lot about me…

Bowdoin is way more laid back than Amherst and Williams. They all have a rigorous curriculum but at Amherst/Williams, the kids are way more competitive. Bowdoin students like to see each other succeed. Another reason why Bowdoin won me over.

Does Bowdoin care about showing interest? And if so, how do I do it if I’m super far away?

Man, I’m kind of worried that I won’t actually like Bowdoin or any of the Maine/Boston schools I’ve been interested in. I’m in love with Bowdoin “on paper” so basically anything I’ve researched online, etc. But I saw another post somewhere where the OP was in love with a school on paper but did not end up liking it once he/she visited.

No, they don’t seem to care about interest. Unfortunately, they’re too selective to take applicant interest into account. However, I’m sure if they were stuck between two candidates and one had visited and interviewed and one had not, the one who had been to campus would have a better chance. Yeah, I was in love with Wesleyan on paper but hated it when I visited. I hope you get to go to Explore Bowdoin and see for yourself!

I would disagree and say they definitely care about interest. They may be more tolerant about a lack of visit if you are coming from a long distance, but unless you are applying ED, you need to find some way to demonstrate that you are truly interested and not just throwing an application at them.

@lizzieofboston wondering about your sources…are you an accepted student or what…?

According to section C7 of Bowdoin’s CDS, applicant’s level of interest is ‘Not Considered’.
