ACCEPTED!!
Congrats to those accepted! To those, can you tell me if you submitted your SAT/ACT scores?
@Cooper2020 I did submit my SAT (2220) and ACT (36) scores.
How did you approach the supplemental essay? Any advice?
My son did not submit any standardized test scores. As for his supplemental essay: Given that he is a Poet, and has won awards for his poetry, he wrote a poem using the “connection to place” theme. So my suggestion is (and I was a college professor for 21 years)…write directly and unabashedly from your heart, using your unique talent to shine. My son is a Poet, so he used his strongest gift, and it was natural, and his soul came through. And thank goodness, there are outstanding Admissions folks at the college who are really looking for your true selves. That, my friends, is RARE. So, you “do you”, and wherever you end up will be fine.
Best wishes, young ones. I am proud of each of you!
I did not submit scores and got in. As for the supplemental, it is so few words and is hard to fit in anything extremely groundbreaking. However, it does matter quite a bit in small school admissions I’m sure. I did connection to place and wrote about how I live in Maine and how I’ve been connected here my whole life, and that continuing college in this state of mine would be a dream come true. Really, don’t overthink it too much - just be yourself and Bowdoin will recognize and appreciate that.
Son rejected. To others who were also rejected, the bright side is that it is better to find out now, so you can put your energy and focus into an RD application to another school. Good luck!
@anne2020 I live in Maine, as well , and it sounds like our essays were very similar. I’m an Eagle Scout , so it was very easy to write the Connection to Place essay. Do you mind sharing which HS you go to? I was deferred.
I’m from the west coast. I was deferred with a 31 ACT and 3.95 GPA, I suppose I expected this. I think my essays and recs prevented me from being rejected… Crossing my fingers now. Does anyone know how common deferrals are for Bowdoin?
Similar to ^^^- I am from the west coast and was deferred with a 32 ACT and a 3.99 GPA. I was also wondering how common deferrals get accepted.
@Cooper2020 Kents Hill!
Rejected…Oh well, on to the next waiting period. Congrats to all of those that were accepted and Good Luck to the rest of us continuing the process.
