Bowdoin, Wesleyan, Tufts, Vassar, College of New Jersey, SUNY - Geneseo, and Bates

I've been accepted to Bowdoin, Wesleyan, Tufts, Vassar, College of New Jersey (free tuition), SUNY - Geneseo, and Bates, and I am having difficulty choosing a school. Right now, I rank the schools in the order I listed them. I want to major in biochemistry, go to grad school, and ultimately make a living doing research. I also consider myself to be a hippie-type libertarian of sorts. Originally, I was turned off by Bowdoin's athletic/prep image, but I'm not sure how significant that should be in my decision-making. Any advice would be great.

I would definitely choose Bowdoin if you like the LAC atmosphere and Maine. If not, Tufts would probably be 2nd.

I don't think I can give too much advice, but go future biochem majors! :) It looks like my life plan (grad school/research) is pretty much like yours.

I was actually looking into TCNJ because it's really a great school BUT you cannot major in biochem there. It's just not offered. (at least, I've never seen it on their list of majors.) You can get Bio, and you can get Chem, but not Biochem. So maybe keep that in mind when you're making your choice...

bob, I hope more people agree with you because I made this thread after Bowdoin recently passed Wesleyan for my number one choice. Lava, I think you are right about TCNJ because I had to put bio as my major on the application.

i have a hippie friend that goes to bowdoin who loves it, but says it is quite preppy. also have a friend at wesleyan who adores it. can't go wrong i say.

I personally like the school Bowdoin, but that's me, i think it is very important the feel of the college because my friend whose at a top LAC hates her school because of the preppy image of everyone there(she doesn't fit in well)

Wesleyan or Bowdoin.

Wesleyan!!!!

It seems like you may have a bent where you enjoy Wesleyan more, but unless money is a major issue, I would say Bowdoin or Wesleyan.

thanks everyone

I would choose between Bowdoin and Wesleyan.

Why is Bates last on your list? I would rank it with Vassar. I would agree that Bowdoin would be the top choice.

Where is Bates? I've heard of Vassar before, but never Bates

Bates is in Maine. I am going to Bowdoin. Bowdoin is preppy..no question, but it is very outdoorsy. I'm not particulary preppy and I'm sure I'll fit in very well. I sure you would too.

If not Bowdoin, go to Wesleyan.

Vassar

(10 char)

The top 4 choices are about the same overall in terms of reputation (not a HUGE difference). I think you will enjoy Vassar the most, but Wesleyan is slightly more prestigious. I would go to Wes or Vassar.

Nothing about Bates ever made me that interested in it, and I wasn't a big fan of the campus, but most people probably would rank it with Vassar

I would pick Bowdoin or Tufts depending on what you are looking for.

Go with Vassar, seems like an incredible school.
