Bowdoin's 25% Increase In Application

Hi guys. I was just wondering why Bowdoin had a 25% increase in application. Can anyone share your thoughts / explanation? Are more people applying internationally? more from the east coast? etc

i think the main reason it increased is because of the jump in rankings. It jumped 3 spots to make it in the top three of USNWR. It also is ranked in the top 10 best colleges on niche.

@TryHard44 In addition to the rankings, I think Bowdoin having to be a test optional school and free application fee for first-gen + people applying for financial aid also factors into their increase in application.

You’re probably right. Bowdoin is making a lot of good changes which all combined are increasing their applicant pool a ton.

Bowdoin has been test optional since 1969. That’s not likely driving the increase this year.

My daughter received quite of bit of mail from Bowdoin this year, whereas two years ago her older sister (with similar grades, test scores, extracurriculars, etc.) received nothing. For over a month she received at least one thing from Bowdoin. So, maybe they’re recruiting more this year? Or maybe they’re recruiting from our area (Hawaii)? Bowdoin has always been our daughter’s first choice, and she applied ED, but she was genuinely surprised at the amount of mail she got from them.

That’s one thing per week this past fall.

Guys idk why, but I have a strong feeling that Bowdoin will release their score on Monday or Tuesday.

Yes, Bowdoin has been climbing in the rankings between all the capital improvements, the individual academic attention, collegiate atmosphere, and amazing food, it’s easy to see why kids want to go here. I know that when I attended the experience was truly magical and those will be moments I never forget in my life because that’s how special it was.
