Boys' State is awesome

Any other Boy's Staters/Nationers here?

I was in Nevada Boys' State this summer. It was very realistic but toward the end, not many people were taking it seriously.

yours was realistic? ours was ridiculous the whole time. The only people who won had the most racist speeches, toward their own race. But it was a blast. Lost party Gubernatorial Candidacy by 30 votes. So, it was fun.

I think ours is ranked 3rd in the nation. I was state party secretary. My party was badly outnumbered so our gubernatorial candidate lost even though he was clearly more qualified and literate. And since I didn't have anything to do during the legislative day, I got to be a Senate page. That was probably the most fun, if not the most constructive.

I went to Girls State (Maryland) if that counts :)

Is Boys State considered prestigious by colleges?

It's free isn't it? Looks like an alternative to governor's school to me

Greendayfan. I'm pretty sure it looks really good on College Apps. Or it could be that I hope it looks good. It looks even better if you win an election; not come in second in the primaries . . .

Plus, it's freakin awesome.

I consider myself to be very open-minded, but I was very disappointed with Texas Boy's State. Especially when there was a 5 minute "gay bash" where 500 of Texas' finest were standing up yelling obscene remarks. Smaller incidents such as these occurred and the experience was nothing like I expected it to be.

Yeah. there were some people like that at California. But, you gotta remember that there are some schools where that could be the cream of the crop. Overall, the ones who took it too seriously ruined it, those who didn't take it seriously ruined it. I liked the ones around the middle. I mean, we tried and convicted another Stater because he was running against our guy for D.A. but it sure was fun.

i went to boys state in california last year...great experience!

Which City were you in? Huntington all the way.

Delaware Boys' State Attorney General.

Alternate for Boys' Nation.

BS was good...until the American Legion guys picked this total charity case to go to Boys' Nation.

The best part was when we disassembled this kid's bed and made him go on a scavenger hunt at 2 in the morning to find the pieces. His dad is one of our senators, so he had recieved all this special attention all week. Watching him hunt for his bed was quite humorous.

There was a little speculation about one of our Boys' Nation Delegates. He was the son of one of the big guys in the American Legion and his dad actually announced that he was going to Boys' Nation. The kid was pretty good and all at law; but he lost his election and a lot of people really disliked him because he was really cocky. but oh well.

MattCarmona,
I had a similar experience at Texas Boy's State, and along with two friends of mine (we are all from Austin, TX), chose to withdraw from the program on the fourth day. I would like to hear more about your experience at Boy's State.
Texas Monthly is publishing an article about Boy's State in the Nov. issue, which you should check out.
