has anyone heard of this thing? My school just nominated me for it and i dont know what it is.

hey i went to boys state last year. i'm from new jersey. I'd say definitely go for it, its a nice weeklong experience. It's not just politics or government either; there are numerous seminars on all subjects, and there are plenty of sports to play.

yeah i went to that a few years back. interesting experience, i didnt care for it tremendously, but it was a good experience all in all. at least in NY you are under the supervision of marines, so its a pretty tight ship, but they were all awesome people and made it pretty fun. actually my least favorite part was all the government stuff. it was too haphazard, you were voting for people that you had met that day, and it was a bit too fake. i would recommend it though. btw, congratulations, it is quite an honor.

I went to girls state...obviously the girls version. If you are interested in government and politics, go for sure, if you get the chance. It was one of the best weeks of my summer. and I heard it looks great on applications.

I attended California Boys State last summer. It was a great experience, and I got to meet some cool people. I'd agree that for the most part the politics side was a little phony, but all in all it was worth it.

It's a very prestigious honor to be selected. Congratulations.

u attended boys state last summer in cali? me 2!! what house were u in? i was in Muir! :D:D:D

I was in Sloat, which was in the Orange County... I don't even remember the actual name of our county... We just sort of adopted "The O.C."... In fact, I think we even were trying to officially change the name, but we lost interest when the people in the red building started selling guns.

It's realy a fun and interesting experience, especially if you are into politics.

Golden Boys State...woot woot

Hey, I'm a California Golden Boys Stater.. I was in .. uhh.. Hackney County, city of Bancroft.. Superior Court Judge.

The Reds tried to invade us.. they got turned back.. lol

hahaha, good times...i loved boys state :)

u guys gonna go back and be counselors? i know i am!! :D

LOL. Maybe, depending on the circumstances.

I went to Badger Boys State (Wisconsin). It was a really good time. I was not into politics at all, and i hated it the first day or two, but then by the end of the week, I had run for Lt. Govenor and won! There is nothing like speaking in front of 900 people. I would highly recommend going! I hateed it but then wound up loving it. I cannot say enough good things about it.

hey thanks for the response. I guess I'm kind of into government, but more into medicine. I love speaking and debating though; also, it said that you had to do military style exercises and stuff, what was that like?

Well, depends what state. Our Golden Boys State (California) had little to no exercise, except when we ticked off our city advisor.. lol.. then we had to do football-esque running exercises.. but other than that, nada..

I went to my state's Boys State... it's something that I think you should definitely go to if asked to attend. Mine seemed to be more government-related than other states, but we did get to play a lot of sports every day. It's definitely a learning experience plus you get to meet a lot of interesting people your age from around the state. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

thanks again..i am from new york btw

I went to ohio's boys state. The lack of females for nine days was a little crazy, but it was worth it. I recommend trying to be a judge.

Well, there was this cute chick at the bookstore at the CSUS campus.. so, the lack of females was.. well, quelled for a bit. Also, being on the phone with the girlfriend for an hour every single day helped.

Haha... I remember that girl... And all of the people who were trying to hit on her.
