How are these places? I'm a grad student at UT and I was thinking about moving into one of these places. The only real thing to keep in mind is that I don't have a car, so it might be a problem for me shopping. Are any of these places within reasonable walking distance to a grocery store?

Has anyone actually lived here before? The rents sound good.

Those 3 are the university-owned apartments. They are mostly filled with students with families- many of the residents are international students. The buildings are OLD (I’m in my late 40s and they were old when I was a student) with cinderblock construction and old appliances. The Colorado apartments are next to the Rowing Center (near RunTex if you are familar with Austin), and the Brackenridge apartments are just down the street. There is a Randalls grocery store about 1/2 mile away. I’m not familiar with the Gateway apartments, but I imagine they are similar. All 3 of the apartments are on both the UT and the city bus routes -so transportation isn’t a problem.
Although I never lived in the student apts, I had friends who did. For student families, they were a great choice -low rent and lots of neighbors with similar lifestyles to swap babysitting time with. If you are single with no kids, you may not enjoy living there.
