Please help. I have been accepted to both Brandeis and Lafayette. They both seem like excellent schools. I plan on majoring in Philosophy and Computer Science and plan on going to Law School. Which school has a better reputation and will carry more prestige for law school? Any advice welcome.

As the people above me have said, “fit” is more important than reputation. That said, if academics are your priority, Brandeis is probably your best bet; it’s also in a better location (9 miles out of Boston).

Since I’m anxiously awaiting my own wait list decision, do you think you could post some of your stats? Thanks. :)

I’m in the exact same position! I’d sent in the deposit for Lafayette in April and received my acceptance from Brandeis yesterday, after being waitlisted RD. While I’d be insanely excited to attend Lafayette, there are also some things about Brandeis that I like a lot (prestige of the name, Boston, farther from home, smaller Greek presence, and classes at Tufts, BU and BC). At the same time, I love Lafayette’s awesome school spirit, gorgeous campus, sense of community, concentration on undergrads, and the fact that its admissions committee liked me right away, not after a few months of deferral. Have you made up your mind? We have less than 10 days to decide, but it’s definitely a win-win situation, and whichever schools we choose we’ll end up in great places!

My stats are nothing special; I bet you’ll get in! The waitlist is always kind of a crapshoot.
white girl from NJ, large public high school
GPA- 3.92
SATS- CR: 650, M: 620, W:710
SAT IIs- US History: 690, Bio E: 570 (ha I know)
honors classes plus a few APs (all 4s on the tests), tons of extracurriculars and community service, very good recs, Jewish-sounding last name, 1 visit to campus and a pretty kickass essay, if I do say so myself. You’ve probably found out by now, but good luck! :)

juliaeleanor–Just got my acceptance off the waitlist today! So thrilled…still have to work out a few kinks with financial aid, but I’m so excited. :D

Both are good. LSAT and GPA are what will determine law school admission, not the choice of one of these over the other. Choose the one at which you will feel more comfortable.
