Breaking the Habit: Judging Schools Based on Someone You Know

I can not help but do it!
e.g. Jane Doe is a a big party girl. Must be a party school.

Recently, an acquaintance of mine was accepted ED to a school on my list. I cannot help but think OMG she is not smart! I cant go there! When, in reality, I can't judge the school based on this one person.

Do other people do this too? Am I being ridiculous?

I do it too.

Cornell sounds like a fabulous school, but I can’t stand any of the people I know who go there. :/

It’s not ridiculous at all, although you should not judge a school just base off a student who attend there. I judge a school base off a number of reasons, and yes recieve and observe information by the student(s) who attend there.
On this forum you’ll be attack like crazy if someone think your judging a school base off a student(s) ( experience it myself), and it gets ridiculous.

Funny you should start this thread today; just heard of a girl accepted to a school my D is interested in; I’m not telling my D; if she knows that this girl (huge partier, not serious about school) is going, she will cross it off her list…you know she’ll find out though, but I’m not telling!!!

HAHA, YESS!! I do it all the time esp. if I haven’t visited and can’t form my own impressions about the school. That’s when I know I have to do more research.
Sometimes it works and sometimes not…
