My daughter receives Bright Futures (FAS). She’s taking 2 online courses right now for summer. I thought that these were covered 100%, but somehow she is being charged “fees” of approx. $200. She called UF and they said that Bright Futures didn’t cover the online fees that she’s being charged. I am confused, as everything we’ve read states that tuition and fees are covered 100%. Has anyone else encountered this, or know what is going on? Thanks!
Looks like it covers the “standard” fees. I know some classes will also charge additional fees (lab cost, etc.), but I’m not familiar with the “online fee”.
My son is taking a 100% online classes and it’s charging a course fees of $87.00. This fee was not covered by BF. On the my.ufl.edu website, under the main menu, select “Tuition” to see a more detailed breakdown. Below is a summery for my son.
EGM 2511 3.00 Credits $505.62
THE 2000 3.00 Credits $505.62
THE 2000 DL Fee 101-250 $87.00
Both summer classes only charged $168.54 per credit hour. His is because we have Florida Pre-paid and don’t have to pay the Tuition Differential ($44) fee.
Looking under account activity, I see that BF paid:
05/19/2018 FL Academic Scholars Award Summer 2018 $1,276.26
BF was more than enough to cover that additional $87, since BF still pays out at $212 per credit hour, even if UF is only charging me the 168 rate.
If we didn’t have Florida Pre-paid, BF would have covered the tuition and standard fees, but we would have had to pay the $87 charge.
Thank you! So, my daughter is being charged the $87, and also has a $140 fee for “Liberal Arts Tier C DL Fee” (don’t know what that is?) for her economics class. Does this sound legitimate?
Not familiar with that DL (Distance Learning) Fee. My daughter is taking an online class, FIN3403, while doing her internship and they charged her a $119.75 “UF All Access” fee which pays for her online “textbooks”.
Sounds like they want to charge two Distance learning fees, the 2nd may cover the online books or other resources.
Thanks. I am just confused. She has the fee of $87 for a music class and $140 for an economics class. When I look at her tuition statement, it looks like she received Bright Futures equal to $248 per credit hour, instead of $212.71. But, it still is not enough to cover these other fees. She also strangely has bookstore deferment of about $72 and an included textbook charge for economics of $67. Maybe I just need to have my daughter call someone there again and get clarity - I just don’t want to pay charges that we may not owe…
