My D (Fall Freshman) has a very nice bicycle that she is thinking of bringing with her to FSU. Does she need a bike? Will it be useful? Safe?
If she’s going to live on campus, there’s a lot of bike vandalism that occurs. Bikes are constantly damaged while they’re chained to a bike rack. I would say she could store it in her room but most rooms would be really cramped if she did so.
If it’s a really nice bicycle and not one of the ones that are easily (and cheaply) replaced, I honestly don’t recommend taking it to campus. If she keeps it in her room it may annoy her and her roommates, and if she was thinking of locking it to a bike rack there’s a good chance that it’d actually be a target for vandalism.
^^^ Interesting to know. This kinda of sucks considering how popular it seems biking is at FSU. It really seems like a nice place to bike.
We are at FSU for orientation - just learned that students can rent bikes for the semester and the rental fee includes all maintenance. I think I am going to check that out… seems like a better option. On another note, looks like students can rent scooters too? Saw a lot of those and motorcycles on and around the FSU campus but riders had no helmets!!! Didn’t like that at all!
If it’s a nice bike, it will either be stolen or vandalized. Maybe not immediately, but someday. Also, it can be a challenge to bike on campus. There are always tons of people walking. From both biker and walker’s perspective, you are taking your life into your hands sometimes! Buth rider and walker have to learn how to dodge quickly. As long as she doesn’t have classes on opposite ends of campus very close together, it will probably be easier and more convenient to walk. Campus isn’t that big. We also have a good bus system. It’s fairly easy to understand, reliable and there’s an app for it.
