Can anyone give advice on types of technology to bring to a dorm to share with people, or stories about it? Like experiences with game systems/movies/TVs/music/etc.

I'm planning on bringing my external hard drive that has lots of movies on it to watch with my roommates/people on my floor (like holding a movie night or w/e in the lobby) and my Nintendo 64 because THE NINTENDO 64 IS BADASS.

Don’t bring a TV/system. People love video games in college, and I don’t have anything against them, but I think it is a waste of time. It makes sense in high school when there isn’t anything else to do, but there is so much stuff going on in college that you should be out exploring and not staying in. I am not having a TV or console in my room. Concubines? Yes. Consoles? No.

I brought a TV this year and last year and wouldn’t move in without it. I brought my wii this year which I suspect I am only going to be playing with my boyfriend, but we’ll see.

It’s not like I sit in my room watching tv all night, but it’s not like I am never hanging out in my room, either. My room is a really awesome place to be.

Bring a TV if your school offers Cable. I watch it almost everyday and get together with friends to watch specific TV shows we all like several times a week. It’s nice to have a little something to entertain yourself with in your down time, especially with friends. =)

If you like game systems, bring one. Like 1/3 of my hall gets together in the room across from mine to play Mario Kart on the girl’s N64 almost everyday. =P

Totally disagree with tnc. Bring the TV; bring video games (if you want). It’s not a waste of time if you enjoy them. Sometimes I play with friends, sometimes I play alone (I actually prefer alone). I have a Wii, so now I can watch netflix with my roommates and friends on my TV as well. I have chosen not to buy cable.

I’m not getting the hate against electronics. “Much to do in college” includes spending time on electronics (given that one can). Why forgo that which is enjoyable?

they gave us a TV in each of our dorm rooms and my roommate and i have literally never used it once thus far. theres too many fun thingds to do in college than to be a loser and sit around and watch tv/play video games. you’re an adult now. go out and have fun and be productive. get out of ur fairy tale realities of mario kart and WOW

“theres too many fun thingds to do in college than to be a loser and sit around and watch tv/play video games”

is there rly that much to do in college? i really dont think there are enough things to do so that i never have free time. so far i have a decent amount of free time. also i dont consider playing some games or watching some tv by myself as being a loser, i dont about you but i like some time to myself. when i do i like to play video games. lots of my friends played video games and watched tv a decent amount and did fine in school and had a good social life. i guarantee most people who are say dont be a loser or something, do something similar that they think is cool but others think isnt. i brought a tv and a xbox, and im glad did.

Playing Super Smash was such a great way to be social with people last year. we set it up in our communal lounge (communal meaning for 200+ kids), and it was a ton of fun. I don’t play video games except socially, just like I only drink socially, and while I don’t think either is that much fun when I’m by myself, except as a way to kill time, both can be a ton of fun with a group of people you like.

Ghetto 64 FTW!! I’m bringing mine, and yes, we call it the ghetto 64. That’s the only way to describe the painstaking method of blowing into the N64 as well as the cartridges, jiggling the cartridges just right, sometimes licking the cartridges and then staring in anticipation at the screen. Half the fun comes from cheering as the sound of the game starts up.

After reading this, I feel like it’s time for me to find a new N64 on ebay lol.
