Bringing up SAT score?

In the fall of my sophomore year (I'm a graduating sophomore now), I took the PSAT with no prep whatsoever. I didn't even use the sample booklet they gave us. I got a 165. So I just wanted to know if I shouldn't be concerned that I got a 165 with no prep, or if I need to work A LOT harder. My dream score is a 2250 and I would ideally like to qualify for National Merit (in Virginia the cutoff is ~218). I have been studying on and off since the fall, but I haven't taken practice tests yet. My deadline for the PSAT (for National Merit) is this October, and my first SAT will be next Spring. I guess what I'm really wondering here is, is my goal attainable?

Thanks in advance!

If you study it is attainable.
If you think its bravado to say “I didn’t study at all”… you don’t get brownie points from college admissions for saying that and probably will get a rejection letter for going into a critical test unprepared.

Work a lot harder.

@TomsRiverParent‌ I didn’t want brownie points, I was just pointing that out to show that I received that bad of a score without preparation, and I would have to start from scratch if I wanted a better score.
