Brooklyn College/Suny Downstate BA/MD

Hey guys, I just got accepted into Brooklyn/SUNY Downstate BA/MD! How did everyone else do?
I also made a facebook group, in case you guys wanted to get in contact :D

Log In | Facebook

I sent u a request in FB LOL!

haha got it!

I got into the program too! is the FB group still active? that link wont let me see it!

Hey guys, i got into this program as well as sophie davis. Is this better than sophie davis? Can someone from Brooklyn ba/md add me on facebook? (Bo Guan) I’m obsessedly comparing these two programs everyday.

i didn’t get into the sophie davis program, but i had thought ahead about this if the dilemna had arose (im kinda glad it didnt) . I personally wanted to get the chance to be exposed to liberal arts and become a little well rounded before medical school. sophie doesnt give you that chance, which some people prefer. Brooklyn ba-md actually encourages you major in a humanities based subject.
all the medical professionals i have spoken too have said that 8 years is better than 7 years, so that was also a plus point for brooklyn. I like the idea of having a chance to study abroad and do internships around the city in my free time, because you get some more time and everything is a little spread out.
Sophie Davis’ biggest attraction is not having to take the MCATs but i guess you really have to see how much that matters to you. Also, they have more than one med school affilation so thats something that people like, but downstate is one of their partners as well.
in retrospect i think i may be slightly biased towards brooklyn because i got in over sophie davis program. but good luck in your decision! did you get into macaulay honors with the brooklyn Ba-MD?

Sadly no macaulay and ba/md. For macaulay i put hunter as my first choice just in case i didn’t get into brooklyn BA MD. I did apply to Brooklyn Macaulay though. But the problem is, I got into Hunter, and they are not letting me transfer my spot. You can only get into one Macaulay schools apparently. It’s really frustrating, but it’s all right. Macaulay is just cream on top of the cake. At least, the main package is there.
But yeah, as of right now, im 99% sure I’m coming to brooklyn. I wana major in business and clarinet performance but still do med in the end.
It’s kind of funny how you didn’t get into sophie. All my friends who got into Sophie are actually rejected from Brooklyn. A couple of them really wanted to go to Brooklyn. I think Sophie Davis program despite all the hype is actually pretty weak because of the primary care emphasis and lack of freedom. They also changed the curriculum to 8 years :frowning: It’s basically med school for 8 years w/o undergrad. Downstate is their second best med school match since they got rid of Stonybrook and Dartmouth.(Best is NYU, but so much more money!) Finally, the two years of med school fees pple save with sophie is counterbalanced by the fine they have to pay if they dont serve the poor for 2 years and go primary care, which earns like nothing. So yeah, brooklyn> sophie. Lets go to brooklyn! I just wish there’s a facebook page for the program though, or some reception where we meet and stuff.

aww, i did brooklyn macaulay then was like hmm that was not smart… but it worked out in the end for me. and yay! go brooklyn! i actually got into the Albany/ Union LIM 8 year LIM program so i just have to make my final decision! eek! but im pretty sure ill pick brooklyn! (:

Heyyy!!! I have been accepted into the Brooklyn BA/MD Program and the Ursinus/Drexel Early Assurance Program. Has anyone also been accepted into any BA/MD Programs with Drexel? Also, I tried the link to the facebook group but it didn’t work :(…is there another link??

hey guys sorry about that link, here’s the new one:

Boguan: i agree with a lot of those reasons too! I added u on FB by the way!

Whoa, Boguan I did the exact same thing except I got rejected from Hunter macaulay cause I was overqualified (i called and asked…) and so I got Scholars and Brooklyn BA/MD!
Scholars gives you a laptop and apparently there’s stipends available to study abroad so I’m happy.

But yeah I’m having that dilemma of whether to choose Sophie or Brooklyn…

I just requested to be part of the fb group  Would anyone be dorming at Brooklyn??

nevadavi: how do you find out if you got scholars? and are you sure they raised the mcat to 30 from 27? that’s pretty intense. Yo both of these schools should sign like a contract stating they won’t make any further changes once we enroll. But yea, hard choice btwn sophie and brooklyn. I feel you man.
dancelife: i was actually thinking of getting an apartment b/c the dorms are pretty pricey.

Yea, one of the seniors in the BA/MD program told me that a lot of the BA/MD students have apartments in a certain building right near campus (I am going to e-mail her and find out where the building is). :)

Did any one in wait list get a call?

This is last years post. I know someone must have gotten a call, I told Dr. Silbering I would not be coming…
