Brooks vs. St. Georges

My sister got into both and we where wondering which one is a better choice.

Since I know absolutely nothing about your sister -- her extra curriculars, her sports, her academic interests, her previous school, her home town, her personality -- I feel quite confident in recommending Brooks.

No wait, St Georges's. I mean Brooks.

In my opinion, St Georges!!

I was waitlisted =[

if she is a hot blonde she will fit in well at StG!

wyvern-

uhm. i dont think that's correct.

candycane-

uhm. yep. st. gorgeous!

I don't quite get what wyvern meant.

She means that the students at St. George's are really good looking.

Well. If thats the case then I cant see why I was waitlisted!!
haha. i'm almost kidding :)

Well, she's leaning towards St. Georges' becuase it has a track team and she's a state champion in it. Brooks' however, is right across the street from my grandmother who is not doing so well. Attending Brooks would make it easy to see her before she passes. Brooks doesn't have a track team and it would probably hurt her college application if she chose a school that didn't have track. She's also a pretty good feild hockey player and has about a 3.4 GPA.

Oh yeah! She's wanted to go to Brooks for a long time. She also got in at Kimball Union Academy and Exeter. Exeter is crossed off the list because we live like 10 minutes from there and she'd have to be a day student. KUA is a pretty unknown and thats kind of a floater. She's sitting next to me telling me to type this..just so everyone doesn't think im a creeper who's ubsessed with my sister's education. hahah

Well, is track very important to her and does she really want to compete in college? Being state champ in NH does not necessarily mean a whole lot....not to belittle your sis's success at all, but it is a "small pond" so to speak, and is your sister only in eighth grade? Still lots of time to develop as a runner (not sure what her event is). If she is very serious about track, then I would go with the school where she can continue that.

No I am a freshman who made varsity and thats supposed to be 3.9 not 3.4 GPA

I would go to the school with the track team if she's a state champ. Even if it's a small pond, that's still awesome.

Again, I did not mean to belittle the achievement. I, too, am from NH and having children who have achieved a lot in their respective sports, you do learn that being a NH state champ does not necessarily go too far. If you are still competitive at New Englands and Nationals, that is more telling of your ability. Still, it is a starting point, which is why I did suggest the school with the track team. Most public schools here don't even have JV/Varsity track....you just sign up for track and are on the team.

I would also encourage you to consider the school with the track program. I believe you said that it was St Georges. SGS is a wonderful school is a nice location. If you're good at track, don't give it up.

people say that StG is a "party" or "social" school. what do they mean and why does the school have this reputation?

Brooks is a wonderful school! The academics are challenging, but the teachers and administration remain nurturing. The kids and their parents (like me) are unpretentious. It's not a cut-throat place at all. No-one cares how much money someone has or who is on financial aid. By the way, the field hockey program, lead by Casey Bobo is terrific! The campus sits like a little New England village on the shores of Lake Cochichewick (spelling?). Brooks is really a special place.

dude, the campus is on a high high overlooking the ocean, mansions, yachts and paris hilton's pals in newport....dah, surf's up...shaken not stirred...

The girls at Brooks are just as nice as the girls at SG as they are everywhere else. SG does not have a monopoly on blondes or any other hair color. The alleged party scene is practically nil but I'm sure there are a few as there are elsewhere who take that risk. Believe one can even been suspended for having matches or a lighter, at least probation. They are strict and the kids know it, they also know why they are there. My father went to Brooks (f/b Harvard) and still attends alumni weekend although his classmates are fading fast. My father always wanted my brother or I to attend Brooks but we ended up at different BS as did our cousins. Everyone went to a different school, oddly enough it comes back to that "fit" thing. Trust you went to revisits, what did your gut tell you? By the way, congrats on both!
