Anyone know how good Brown’s biomedical engineering program is? If anyone is majoring in it now, could you tell me your experiences? Thanks

great tissue engineering, proteomics and genomics, and nanomedicine

how do you think it compares to University of Miami’s bme? and do you/did you attend brown? I’m trying to decide and I’m having a tough time

i’m sorry, i don’t know much about Miami’s BME.

I’m in the same situation too.

I am deciding between BU and Brown because I got a full tuition scholarship to BU, which is ranked #7 while Brown is ranked #46 in the undergraduate BME category.

I know rankings don’t mean much, but I feel like BU will provide me with more research opportunities since it is Boston. However, I don’t want to miss out on an Ivy league education where the atmosphere will be great and fit my ideal student body.

Is it worth doing engineering at Brown in BME if it will cost 163k? Where as BU will cost only 60k?

I heard from some people that the Brown’s engineering department is weak and that having an Ivy league name for undergrad is not worth it, and it would be wiser to go to BU since it has a stronger opinion.

To people going to brown or any other students in my same situation, what is the better option? (P.S. As part of the scholarship, I get priority in terms of research funds and stuff at BU so I really don’t wana miss out on it either)

I’ve heard that BU’s BME program is very good. To get a full tuition to any college is very rare now. BU is a top tier school like Brown, and that’s a ton of money to be saved. However, you have to decide which campus fits you better. BU is very different than Brown. It’s a great city to live in though if you like alot of activity. Brown on the other hand is a beautiful and relatively small campus, but living in Providence is very different than living in Boston. Have you visited both campuses? If not, you need to. It made the world of difference for my D last year. You stated the atmosphere at an Ivy League school is great; I’m sure it is, but it doesn’t mean that you won’t find the same great atmosphere at other campuses; alot of students who go to BU and other top tier schools are students who also were qualified to be considered potential students to Ivy League schools; so you will still have the same level of competition among peers. Good luck in your decision.

Macadamianut,
Did you ever find out? Same schools looking @ next year

Dcircle, could you expand on this?

Is it worth doing engineering at Brown in BME if it will cost 163k? Where as BU will cost only 60k?

I’d have to say no to this one. Since BU is still a Tier 1 school and seems to have a great program, I don’t see how anyone can justify $100k difference. You sure don’t want that debt coming with you out of college, and if your parents will pay, have a hard talk with them about what impact that $100k will have.

I thought brown gave decent financial aid. either you’re rich or i am definitely not applying there.
