BU v. Brown Biomedical Engineering

I am deciding between BU and Brown because I got a full tuition scholarship to BU, which is ranked #7 while Brown is ranked #46 in the undergraduate BME category.

I know rankings don’t mean much, but I feel like BU will provide me with more research opportunities since it is Boston. However, I don’t want to miss out on an Ivy league education where the atmosphere will be great and fit my ideal student body.

Is it worth doing engineering at Brown in BME if it will cost 163k? Where as BU will cost only 60k?

I heard from some people that the Brown’s engineering department is weak and that having an Ivy league name for undergrad is not worth it, and it would be wiser to go to BU since it has a stronger opinion.

To current BU students or any other applicants in my same situation, what is the better option?

hahahaha this is such a silly question. BU is obviously better than Brown. 100,000 is not worth the ivy league title

BU is a terrific school. You’ll have vast opportunities there. However, you have to advocate for yourself there, and work to stand out; less will be handed to you there than might at Brown.
How set are you on BME? The whole question changes if you might change your major …

I don’t know where you get those numbers - both schools cost $38,000 a year for tuition…

Well, those prices are with the scholarships and room and board included.

I got a full tuition thing at BU, so its only room & board.

Also, I am pretty set on taking BME as a major but maybe a double major.

My advice is always:

go where you want
go where they have your program
go where you can afford

You are obviously talented if you got into Brown so you will do well at BU. I don’t know your family’s finances but that’s a big $$$ difference.
