Brown Class of 2018 Early Decision Applicants

reno: the first stickied thread on this forum is about interviews. Look there

OMG! I didn’t know we had to submit the CSS profile by NOV 1. OMG OMG! I thought it was something we do after you get admitted. what do i do?!

Hey class of 2018 ED applicants! My name is Maggie Livingstone and I am a reporter for Brown’s student newspaper, the Brown Daily Herald. If anyone wants to be interviewed for an article I am writing on early applicants, please email me at margaret_livingstone@brown.edu. I would really appreciate your help!

@ilaughinghouse
i did the exact same thing! i turned mine in about a week late. i emailed the financial aid office and took responsibility for the mistake. they were very understanding!

Hey y’all, another ED applicant here.
I’m so nervous! I know the decision date hasn’t been released yet, but I have a countdown timer on my phone to December 15th. 23 days! (Hopefully sooner, 'cause I’m sick of waiting.)

I don’t know why, but I feel like I’ll care less and less about the decision as we approach the mid-Dec date because by then I’ll have finally accepted that I can’t really do anything about it. :(

But for now, still nervous about my interview this weekend :p

So I’m guessing no Brown interviews in South Korea?

Oh man, I didn’t know about the CSS being due on Nov 1! I sent it a week later. Should I send an apology email about it now, even though it’s been a month, or would it just bother them?

There’s no need to apologize. You either met the deadline or you didn’t - but you didn’t do anything that warrants an apology.

If your CSS wasn’t submitted by Nov. 1, what you need to do is contact the financial aid office and find out if your CSS was submitted in time for them to issue a financial aid decision at the same time that the admissions decisions go out. Given that Brown posted various deadlines during the month leading up to Nov. 1, ranging from 11/01 to 11/07, it’s likely that any CC submitted within a week after Nov. 1 will be deemed timely, but you need to contact the financial aid office to make sure.

If they tell you that your CSS was not submitted in time for them to issue a financial aid award, then you probably want to change your app from ED to RD. If you need financial aid, you do not want to be locked into accepting an offer of admission when you don’t know how much financial aid you’ll get.

ilaughinghouse - You need to contact the financial aid office ASAP and find out if you can still submit your CSS and have it processed by December 15. If not, and if you need financial aid, then you need to contact the admissions office immediately, in writing (email is fine), and request that your app be changed from ED to RD.

@schmincke: I’m with you. I keep telling myself I won’t get in so that I can only be surprised (read: ecstatic). I, of course, waited to think this way until after I did everything I could (essays, interview), so that I still had confidence when presenting myself to the school. So, when you have your interview, believe you can make it! Know why you belong there: tell yourself that YOU ARE BROWN.

Good luck!

@dancingwriter I heard some people already had their interviews weeks ago…
:frowning: I sent an email to the Office of College Admission so hopefully I’ll get a reply soon!

hey, guys! i submitted my ED app on October 29th & received an email from a local doctor who is a brown alum regarding my interview which is now scheduled for this sunday (at her home! :o ) i guess i just want to put others’ minds at ease about interviews because i’ve been really worried for the past few weeks because all of my other friends have had several college interviews and i haven’t. so be patient! and again, if you don’t get an interview, that’s fine too! it has no substantial influence (or so they say) on the admission process. regardless, good luck to all of you!!! :)

I was contacted for my interview today! I’m really good at in-person stuff, but it’s a phone interview! panics I have a phobia of phone calls. I reject every call that comes my way, although I’ve been trying my best to accept them the past few months. My broken relationship with phone calls is on the mend, but the interview is tomorrow! Eek! Hoping everything will be all right.

yall

what is up

do you guys by any chance frequent the forums of the other colleges to which you applied? I feel like I should at least check them out… lol instead of haunting the brown forum all the time

then again, if I don’t get into brown, I don’t care too much about where I end up :p
