Brown Class of 2018 Regular Decision Applicants

Just to inform everyone, not all applicants will find out at 5:30pm EDT!

It seems as though Brown has decided to stick with their new strategy in notifying all of the applicants on a staggered basis. My email tells me I will find out at 5:00 pm EDT. Some people here are saying their email says 5:30 pm EDT. I THINK that they are (atleast) halving the pool to prevent system overload problems and such. There might be other different situations as well.

So make sure to check your email and read the timing carefully!

Why do they release decisions so late in the day? To avoid phone calls? Trinity College time was 8:00pm.

They’ve been doing the staggered approach for the past few years, and I think it’s avoided some of the issues that showed up before.

@NewHavenCTmom: I think it’s also because many applicants are in other time zones, and this makes it so that students on the West Coast, for example, aren’t checking right in the middle of the school day. 5pm Eastern accommodates both students on the West Coast and students in Europe. It’s also somewhat to avoid phone calls; I’m surprised they aren’t releasing on a Friday like they generally do.

Mine says 5:30pm, and I’m on the west coast.

Yikes. It feels real now. I’m glad I’m on spring break because there’s no way I’d be able to focus on school with all this right around the corner.

5:30 PM in the midwest.

seems like its a geographic thing. 5pm East coast

5:30pm, International, Beijing time

The cynic in me says that the different times correlate to admission offers.
The optimist in me says that they are doing it in staggered approaches to avoid server overload.

5:30 pm Caribbean @Dracolis I thought the same. Maybe the times say the decisions, but then again we are just looking for every little detail that could tip us about admission. We’ll have to wait and see. :D

Like @SwatBoy, I think it’s due to geographic area. My email said 5 pm and I’m from the East Coast.

@astrogirl, Haha, I’m so nervous now! 3 more days for me - don’t think I’ll get any work done in these three days. Good luck!

My son is 5:00 pm. When my daughter applied (2 years ago), there were times ranging from 5 pm until 7 or 8 pm, I thought.

@Dracolis it seems like all those living overseas got 5:30pm - I’m in Australia and got that too. Don’t worry

I’m from Michigan and my email says 5pm, but someone mentioned earlier that they were from the Midwest and was told 5:30. I’m suure it isn’t a clue about decisions, but I’m curious to know if there is any rhyme or reason to the times assigned… Perhaps it is based on the number of applicants from certain areas?

Maybe but I doubt it… They would stagger it regardless I would presume. My area had very few applicants for sure and we are at 5:30PM

Probably all up at same time (5pm). Just trying to spread the traffic out a bit. Just a guess here, but that’s my take.

Mine says 5:30 EDT. West Coast.

My son’s is 5:00 EDT–also West coast.

It could be alphabetical - Southwest here and last name falls in A-E. Got a 5:30 timeframe.

I’m in FL and my last (and first) name start with an S. It’s not alphabetical.

@Schoolapalooza

P-Z and 5.30 too, so nah. I hope it’s just random/time of application proccessed and usernames assigned.
