Brown Class of 2018 Regular Decision Applicants

You can call to get your application account information. Contact Brown Computing Accounts/Passwords at 401.863.4357.

Interviews, I think, are handled separately through the regional alumni coordinator.

It’s too still to expect confirmation emails. As I’ve been saying here, it’s a busy time for Brown, and they’re getting to them as fast as they can. If you haven’t heard anything by next Friday (1/17), you may think about calling.

When we spoke to Brown, they told us the Decision Date should be March 27th… the same date used by Penn, Princeton and Columbia. This is still a long time to wait, but a little better than April 1st.

FYI, all Ivies have the same decision date.

That common date for the ivies decision is both a curse and a "good coming. " getting so much rejections in one day will be outright depressing. All in hope for one acceptance…

UChicago is the only non-Ivy that my daughter applied to who also announces its decisions on March 27th. This is likely on purpose. Six decisions all in one day for her, including 5 Ivies. And if she is lucky enough to secure a positive Brown decision, then the rest really will not matter to her :)

Hey has anyone gotten a LL yet? A kid at my school said he received one on January 9th. I dunno if it was a hoax or anything. I thought LL was sent out in waves and shouldn’t it be too early to receive one?

And he isn’t an athlete fyi. His GPA isn’t that great and his SAT score is under 2150.

LLs are possible. They are issued anytime btn Oct and mid-March. Is your classmate a hoaxer? Anything is possible.

Sorry if it’s something very well known but what is a LL?

[‘Likely’ letters preempt admission cycle ? Brown Daily Herald](<a href=“http://www.browndailyherald.com/2011/04/14/likely-letters-preempt-admission-cycle/]'Likely”>'Likely' letters preempt admission cycle - The Brown Daily Herald)

“These letters normally are sent in February and March.” - except Oct letters to athletic recruits.

So LLs are only sent in February and March? I don’t know but shouldn’t they try to compare the applications first? I mean, January 9th is no ****. It would be normal if he were an athlete but he isn’t.

If you’re not a recruited athlete, I would not bother concerning yourself with LLs, as only about half of 1% of the applicants who are not athletes will receive them.

There have been no “likely letters” for my daughter. She just wishes now that she could have visited Brown earlier, so that she could have applied ED. Brown was always her first choice college, and she did apply there first - back in early August - but until her visit to Brown occurred over the winter break, she was not willing to commit to a binding decision. Now she wishes that she had been able to do so. Oh well… March 27th will arrive eventually.

WWWard, your daughter may take comfort in knowing “The Board of Admission makes the same decisions under Early Decision that it would under the Regular Decision plan” as stated on Brown’s web site. But, yes, the wait sucks.

In many ways, the wait may be harder on the parents. At least HS seniors have many more distractions to fill the time.

Do any of you have a suggestion regarding the order of checking decisions on D-Day? My D has 6 decisions to review that day (3/27). Do you favor looking at them 1-6 (with 1 being her top choice) or 6-1? Any thoughts?

Ugh, I have 7 decisions out of 10 total on the 27th. That’s gonna be a tough day.

I think I’m gonna do the “easier” schools first, like Cornell and Duke (though they are, by no means, easy), so that I will hopefully have an acceptance before I look at the tougher schools.

I just called Duke to confirm. They announce April 1st.

Just called Brown too… and they said early April - a date to be determined later. Ugh! It seems like the ComAp website issues may be causing schools to announce later than initially expected.

^ The release date is March 27. Though Brown doesn’t specify its date, all Ivy leagues release decisions on the same date, and if you check other Ivies’ sites, such as Princeton and Columbia, the decision date is released. In the past, Brown has sent an email with the link to the site where you’ll check your admission status.

Last year, Duke released admissions March 27, so I’m predicting a March 26 release date for Duke.

@satman, I know how you feel. Right now I’m looking at about 9 decisions on that special day… Yay! Let’s hope for not 100% rejection!

my88keys: Hopefully you are correct. A couple weeks back, Princeton, Columbia, Brown and Penn each told us March 27th. So did UChicago. Dartmouth had told us April 1st though. We also thought that the Ivies each used the same day, but Dartmouth said something different. And today, Duke said April 1st, and Brown said early April. Clearly, we would also prefer to hear the results earlier… but Brown specifically changed what they are saying over the phone. The website says “Late March / Early April”. Here’s hoping for late March…
