Brown Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

Lol hey everyone just another ED kid trying not to explode!!!

Yeah I was thinking that too. Still, it’s kind of mean to be sending (somewhat) personalized emails if you didn’t get in! It’s like “well, here’s what you could have had.”

@gillianm27 hahah so true, that’s kinda sad :frowning:

I didn’t get an email but I applied undecided. should I be worried?

@Gdawg30 i read ur post from days ago, and you are most likely gonna get rejected or defered. Defered at best. Good luck dude. 680 math is just not great

I did not get an email, and I indicated biochemistry as my major. I got a science at Brown email around a month or two ago.

Let’s keep our mind off of things! What are you guys most proud of on your application? (For example, what extracurricular or score or grade or whatnot do you think helps you stand out the most?)

My extracurriculars combine to show off my love of music/art/journalism - I work at a magazine, I included a link to my soundcloud, I’ve been running a fashion/culture blog for 6 years, and I started my schools first radio station. Regardless if I get into Brown or not, I’m super proud of all my accomplishments!! What about you @jacobpilawa ?

I guess my music submission and main essay. I submitted two composition works (one is a song to celebrate my high school’s 15th anniversary and the other one is just an electronic music) through SlideRoom. I wrote about my volunteering experience in Cambodia, and I think the essay reflects my identity and personality pretty well… But I’m not sure whether the admission office will think it’s a strong essay or not (as they are receiving tons of amazing essays each year)…

@artblogger That is amazing!! Did you apply to journalism/broadcasting major??

@ffina23 I think you should wait…Lol. I get out of my oral communication class at 5pm CST, so approximately 6pm EST, but I am not going to check my result during my class… Unfortunately, I have a speech on 10th, and I have a scenario I am imagining right now: I’ll be so nervous while delivering a speech, get a C on my speech, cry, check my result, get rejected, cry. Yay…

In keeping with @jacobpilawa ‘s idea, I’m probably most proud of my strong music and art portfolios and my letters of rec. My EC’s, short answers, and essay all have to do with my intended field of interest so that’s good too I suppose. I’m just nervous that my gpa (3.74 UW) and test scores (740 R, 590 M, 760 W) won’t be up to par. I explained the low math score, but I doubt it’ll be enough. I’m not getting my hopes up :’(

@artblogger Yo, that sounds so freaking awesome! What’s your soundcloud?! I wanna take a listen! That’s something you should be very proud about!

I think I am most proud of this insane opportunity I had to work with NASA! Me and 5 friends go to go talk with some engineers at NASA about a project we were doing, and I was able to pitch the project to the team of scientists! It was so exhilarating, and was honestly the culmination of my enjoyment of math/science!

It was a complete fluke of an opportunity, though! I feel like I come off super pretentious saying that, but I don’t mean it. It was just a super neat experience.

I want to be a music therapist so my courseload is all psych and music related classes, as are my EC’s. It’s challenging - I have subjects like AP Psych, AP Stats, AP Lit, and AP Music Theory in the mix - but I’m worried that not having a lab science or language my senior year could mean bad things for me as well. Or it could be good because they show I have a clear intended direction. Who knows. The suspense is killing me.

This will probably sound stupid, but I’m really proud of my SAT score. By studying all on my own, I went up from a 2100 (690M 710R 700W) to a 2280 (800M 750R 730W). Also my art portfolio because those are a TON of work.

@barbaragordon Wow! Did you draw your profile picture too??

@YellowDune Yeah, I did. Unfortunately, it was finished just a bit too late to go to Brown in time for ED though.

Every single one of you is impressive. Don’t fixate too much on your purported “weaknesses” - all applicants have a few.

Thanks @MiscTroll ! I really needed to hear that. I think we all did!

I’m proud of my EC’s, sports, and especially SATs (2100), however I’m least proud of my 3.8 weighted gpa… Im expecting a rejection, so i can go on with my life. Im not quite smart, and tbh part of this is how competitive my school is (thank god we don’t rank), but i figured might as well try and see if it’s even possible.
