Brown Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion

@lizzy1234 relax, the course selection section is when you click [Financial Aid Status]. Next, a page pops up with 5 different links:
~[Requirements]
~[Current Award Information]
~[Financial Aid Messages]
~[Accept Loan Offers] ------> I don’t know what else people are referring to as loan section but this has always been there for me
~[Upload Financial Aid Documents]

These 5 links are on the Financial Aid page… if you look up there are 3 categories above these links:
~{Personal Information}
~{Student}
~{Financial Aid}

So, if you click on the {Student Section}, you come to a page with the following message:
[For Summer 2016 and beyond, to search and add courses to your cart, use Brown’s new Course Search Tool - Courses@Brown.]

There you go…

@lizzy1234 A week before Tufts EDII decisions came out, I had the option to send in my enrollment deposit. Not everyone had this.They got rid of it soon after. I thought it meant that I was accepted but I was deferred. It. Means. Nothing.

@BrKmNk comment a few pages ago sees a genuine loan offer. to pretend that’s nothing is silly

@lizzy1234 I only see comments that say people have an “accept loan offer” thing on their portal. I’m pretty sure everyone does. C h i l l.

Everyone qualifies for loans, regardless of income, so they could put that on every applicant’s Financial Aid profile. Those who did not apply for financial aid don’t even have a link to a financial aid screen, apparently.

@lizzy1234 I can look through courses for Fall 2018

My daughter can not browse fall 2018 courses on the portal. And we’re a financial aid family; there’s no loan offer, either.

Did you try going to Financial Aid Status > Student (tab) > Courses@Brown ?

@writermom2018 yeah, did you do what @IlluminatiIsReal said above me ^?

I think everyone has Courses@Brown.

People earlier were talking about being able to go to https://selfservice.brown.edu and:

  1. seeing an actual detailed loan within the Financial Aid tab
  2. click Student tab, click Registration link, then being able to click Add or Drop Classes, then Registration Term and and onto browsing courses

My daughter doesn’t have any loan details. Nor can you get past Registration Term, an error pops up.

So can everyone see courses@Brown or it could be that not everyone can but a lot of people at CC can bc the people on CC have much better stats than the average applicant?

Can someone screenshot what their “Student” tab looks like, if they can access this “registration” link some of y’all are talking about?

Everyone has that courses@ link on top. But seeing a real loan or having registration sort of opened is a diff story.

In the self-service link how do u know what ur password and username is?

Well, I’m gonna get off this website for a little while! Although I was so discouraged to be deferred from Brown, I now feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders after being admitted to Bowdoin College! I still have hope left for Brown and will see ya’ll on March 28, but it’s nice knowing that all of my hard work is finally paying off!! Good luck guys :). 11 more days!

I emailed the registrar, they replied that courses@brown is a public page and seeing it means nothing

Also, only enrolled students can register. *ENROLLLED , not accepted. * Very different.

I have no idea why some can access through portal, and others not… but they have always had a nebulous and confusing IT dept, and it probably is just some little meaningless nothing. If you go back through old Brown posts on CC… these discussions have been had year after year.

I do think it is “fun” looking for clues, even feels a little hopeful. But, no, it’s not a backdoor. :stuck_out_tongue:

I do find this part fun too… when I am in the courses at brown pages, if you click calendar, it gives suggestions that happen to be DD’s chosen major.

Are these options only available through the financial aid portal? We did not ask for it, so my DD’s page still looks like a basic checklist of submitted documents, no tabs or anything

I haven’t applied for financial aid - and my portal is also just a basic checklist, so yeah it must be through financial aid portal

agree - no financial aid request, so no financial aid portal here.
