@greenfrogmemes well it has in the past and may in a week from now i.e.-whether or not the box remains. Which it did for WL students apparently
Heeeeee. iiiiisssss BAAAAACK!
No worries, there is love for everyone.
@Volunteerism, whatâs back?
I have a âFinancial Aid Statusâ link that leads to an error page saying âError. org.springframework.dao.RecoverableDataAccessException: PreparedStatementCallback; SQL [ SELECT * FROM APPCONFIG WHERE APPNAME = ? ]; Closed Connection; nested exception is java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: Closed Connectionâ whatever that means.
I donât have the checklist, also.
Does anyone have checklist at this point?
The other day the portal said the FA Checklist will be removed on the 21st in preparation for decision release.
Not applied FA. Still have FA Link. No FA Checklist.
Unless you think Brown (and the alumni volunteers higher up the process than a standard interviewer like me) openly lie to its applicants and alumni, it is simply NOT true that Brown prioritizes interviews in any way. They are very explicit about this.
Yes, things are harder but my GPA/MCAT are still plenty competitive for medical school and while my research would probably be insufficient to be competitive for MSTPs these days, I would have no problem getting into a medical school of the caliber I am at now.
With regard to geoforceâs comments on research at Brown, I would agree with him if he were talking about what itâs like to be a graduate student at Brown. There is a reason I didnât even apply to the MD/PhD program at Brown. Based on my experience in MD/PhD admissions, the actual results/splash of the research is a distant 3rd (when it comes to evaluating a studentâs research experience) to the involvement of the student and the content of the LOR (which is enhanced when you actually get to interact directly with the PI). No place matches Brown on that.
@iwannabe_Brown : I hate quoting Ivy Coach. We have no money and have no interest or need to use any of those consultants. In fact, the only money we paid was for an online SAT preparation. But those consultants indeed hire a lot of previous AOs and those AOs are no longer in a position to state the official lines. This âNeed Blind Admission is a Farceâ (https://www.â â â â â â â â â â â â /the-ivy-coach-blog/college-admissions/need-blind-admission-farce/) and âNeed Blind Admission Does Not Existâ (https://www.â â â â â â â â â â â â /the-ivy-coach-blog/college-admissions/need-blind-admission-does-not-exist/) articles clearly state that âYes, colleges lie! We know, youâre shocked. Donât be.â
We are entitled to our opinions and we are believer of â14 Management Principles of The Toyota Wayâ (http://leanblitzconsulting.com/14-principles-of-the-toyota-way/). Toyota Way Principle #12: Go and See For Yourself (http://leanblitzconsulting.com/2012/07/toyota-way-principle-12-go-and-see-for-yourself/). If Brown randomly chooses interviewees today, your time is not being used efficiently. Back when you were being admitted, it is possible to interview everyone. Last year Yale has 18000 completed interview reports. 10 years ago, Yale has 19,674 applicants. Everyone would be interviewed 10 years ago. But now half of the candidates have to go before interview assignment starts. The math simply does not add up. We were contacted by all the Ivies we applied for interviews within a short period of time after Jan 1. All schools have algorithms to pick top candidates.
Guys, take this somewhere else please. I could not care any less about these stats. We know itâs hard to get into Brown. We have one more week. Make a separate thread to talk about these things or argue privately. This is an applicants discussion forum. Thanks :).
Given the extremely low admit rate, it seems to me that these schools must just pick the applicants they want rather than putting all of them through some sort of funnel. A little difference in GPA or test scores is not likely to make the difference in admissions.
maybe it is a giant roulette wheel. Applicant Red 17, youâre IN! :))
@iwannabe_Brown : Actually Brownâs medical school is not included in this yearâs MSTP. (https://www.nigms.nih.gov/training/instpredoc/pages/PredocInst-MSTP.aspx) Obviously, graduate level research at some areas is not one of Brownâs strongest points.
Those two PLME girls are bragging that they are taking Organic chem course PASS/FAIL (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj4yMvCt-ak) ⊠I find it unbelievable that any school would allow their future medical school students taking Organic Chem PASS/FAIL. I do know that Organic Chem courses are the most difficult courses at Brown. My child was laughing non-stop recently at the really funny old article on New York Times regarding Brownâs Orgo. (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/26/education/edlife/26orgo.html) ---- " If I was going to fail, I was going to fail with dignity."
My child has been accepted into a summer clinical internship at a prestigious hospital associated with a top 20 medical school. I suspect it is the medical school you are graduating from this year. I would like to sincerely thank you again for sharing so much of your knowledge with us over the years (ăăȘăă«ăŻéćžžă«æèŹăăŠăăŸă). I cannot believe you spent so much of your time helping other for free. Congratulations again on your graduation !!
I live in Providence, so when I drive by the campus, my heart always beats a little faster. Iâm not sure how Iâm going to survive this week.
Hey! Any internationals here? Did you get an interview?
yes, we thought that being able to take classes pass / didnât take was a nice benefit, though it seems its better suited for classes outside your major, like if you as a Bio major and want to take Art history that would be a good candidate- taking a core class in your major as pass /didnât take seems a bit soft and disingenuous academically
@gigichuck I am an international - I was interviewed back in the beginning of January.
@quinntheeskimo How is that disingenuous? S/NC is there so that students take classes for the sake of learning. Coming from someone who cares a lot about her grades, I think that itâs nice that Brown emphasizes learning, so that students arenât stressed out and overly competitive. It also makes it so that they are more willing to take risks and step out of their comfort zones. As a prospective pre-med student, if I by some miracle end up at Brown then I wonât be taking those classes S/NC, but someone can take all of their classes S/NC if they wanted. The choice is theirs, and itâs not yours to judge.
@sciencenerd123 âIt also makes it so that they are more willing to take risks and step out of their comfort zones.â, exactly my point- taking a class outside your major is stepping out of your comfort zone, taking the easy way out in one of your core classes is not exactly striving to be your best- but as you say itâs not mine to judge-
I was never given an interview. When I emailed and asked, they said that I had already been contacted, however I couldnât find the email anywhere (I checked every inbix on my account, including spam)
