A discussion for those applying to Brown University’s class of 2023. Anybody else applying ED?
Not applying this year as I am a rising junior in high school, but Brown is my first choice, and I hope to apply to the Class of 2024 senior year!
Best of luck to you, @apmaster10!
Have a good day!
I’m not applying ED but I am applying RD. Super hyped I just finished writing my supplements and I love the university even more.
Thank you @excoverer !
We just got back from a road trip where we toured Brown. My kid is super-excited to apply to Brown. But they do ED, not SCEA, and we are very hesitant to let him apply anywhere ED so he will be applying in the regular round.
Any tips on making my “Open Curriculum” supplement unique? I def gotta nail the writing aspects of the applicatio cause my SAT score isn’t amazing
I’m applying ED. Brown is my #1 choice, I just love the school!
Definitely considering ED!
Just dropped my son off at Brown. Great school, amazing people and the town of Providence offers excellent food options and an eclectic vibe.
For those of you applying good luck. My impressions below are a mix of my sons experiences, numerous visits and listening to alumni and research (hardly definitive).
My best advice is to remember that Brown does not seem to have a “stereotypical” type student. They want passionate individuals. So be yourself when filling out the essays, and let them see what gets you excited and how that energy will benefit your college community.
On open curriculum question the flexibility to take what you want and to know that every kid is in the class is there out of interest (not requirement) is the superficial answer. Dig through the course book. What would you have the flexibility to take at Brown compared to Chicago or Columbia. Are there major areas of study you can delve deeper into, are there non related eclectic interests that you want to look at, will you have the maturity to be proactive and structure your learning experience. Are those interest and initiative reflected in your work to date.
Athlete, entrepreneur, artist, social justice advocate, academic, stem kid, humanities, actor, etc…the best thing I have seen is no need to choose. You are who you are and Brown has students who will share some of your interest in a pationate way. You can be a unique individual and be part of the campus community.
Lastly, in spite of popular lore the dorms were nice. Big double rooms that had recently been redone with modern and very nice study lounges. Apparently the Ben and Jerrys ice cream machine is a big hit. We toured a lot of schools and while not the most luxurious dorms we saw, certainly in the top quartile (particularly in light of the charm of a preeecolitipn campus).
Some are very first impressions and general move in is next week but so far so good.
Planning on EDing! Good luck
late but i am also planning on EDing!!
Good luck to you all! While I’m not applying this year, I wish you all the best! @beccaisa @applying2023 @strawberryfondue12 @worldofwonder14 @owenfahey @ninakatarina
Really interesting info. Thanks for sharing! @Nocreativity1
Have a good day!
thanks!^
I’m applying to Brown RD! The more research I do, the more I grow to like Brown. It’s definitely the most selective school that I’m applying to so I really want to finesse those supplements lol
Hi y’all I’m a current freshman at Brown rn! I was admitted to PLME with an intended concentration in Public Health. I’m excited to hear that y’all are planning on applying to Brown, and if you are debating it you should! I would love to answer any questions you guys have about Brown/Admissions. Just a general tip, don’t write what you think Brown wants to hear, write was is true. My essays to Brown were in no way “traditional” and that’s what Brown looks for!
Hi my son plans to apply to PLME early decision. Would he have a chance with below 1500 sat and 4.0 weighted GPA but a lot of research experience, national awards and great essays?
@maxine70 Make sure that your son’s first choice is Brown either way because as of a couple of years ago, using ED for PLME means you are also ED’ing to Brown. That is, a result could be that he will not get accepted into the PLME program, but still be accepted ED to Brown, which requires him to attend Brown for undergrad. Good luck…it’s a great program and a great undergrad!
Yes, we are aware of that. Thanks

Personally I think her art/music portfolio is the deciding reason for what got her in. Of course, she is a very strong candidate overall . She is a premed who is studying in Brown, not like some other premeds who are stuDYING in some other places. She is quite honest. She said she did one summer research at Stanford without taking biology course before. I think admissions officers know her parents are very resourceful.
