I just got placed in brown for my first year (!!) and I was wondering if anyone had any insight to the benefits/disadvantages of the inner room vs the outer room? Thanks!
My D lived in Brown four years. She preferred the inside room because of its proximity to the bathroom. The inside room also has the closets for both rooms. The outside room has a (nonworking) fireplace, and that appeals to a lot of people. Brown is nice because residents have their own space, but they always have to keep in mind that they are not private rooms. The outside roommate has to pass through the inside room to get to the bathroom, and the inside roommate has to pass through the outside room to leave. My D really enjoyed living in Brown. You can’t beat the location!
@radni19 Which portal were you assigned? I lived in Smith when I was a student. It was great rolling out of bed and being able to run across the street and through Bryan Hall’s walkway to get to my classes in Cabell. The central location was super convenient and awesome.
I had the inside room. Looking back, it was strange for me to go through my roommate’s room to get to mine or to leave, and for him to go through my room to go to the bathroom, but you get used to it.
It’s somewhat rare, but some people share the inside room and have the outside room be a hang-out/study room.
I just heard on Facebook that UVA overenrolled by 200 this year and there are first year triples in Brown. That’s actually why I came on here. I would love to hear how your year is going if you are in a triple. 12 first years with one shower this is the most messed up thing I have ever heard of. I’m not on here much but feel free to PM me we can get in touch through reddit or something else I use more.
